Jeffrey wolfe
I adhere to the counseling model that symptoms of anxiety, depression, and behavioral difficulties are surface manifestations of underlying internal and/or relationship conflicts. My counseling approach strives to identify these underlying internal conflicts and find solutions to them, resulting in symptoms diminishment overtime. I also adhere strongly to the view that no client is reducible to a diagnosis or any other psychological category. Rather, respect for clients’ cultural, family, and personal identity is paramount. The primary goal of counseling is to relieve suffering.
First session
The initial session is mostly information gathering. I will ask clients what their chief concerns are and their reasons for seeking counseling. I also inquire about what experiences and/or circumstances might be contributing to their difficulties. Additional relationship and family histories are also addressed. Toward the end of the first session, clients are asked to formulate goals and how they want the counseling to benefit them.
