Hi! I'm Shawna. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of California. As your therapist I aim to create a therapeutic relationship where the client is the guide as I work to reflect and offer information from evidence based sources using as objective a lens as humanly possible. I'm also a trained yoga & mindfulness instructor which I incoropate into therapy whenever the client feels it may be beneficial to their work. In my free time I enjoy live music, yoga, nature, cooking, dance, hiking/walking, bowling, crafting, spending time with my loved ones.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first meeting we'll spending covering any legal/ethical questions/considerations, along with getting to know one another through inquiring about reasons for seeking therapy and what they might be interested in learning from or looking for from me. If we decide we're a good fit we can agree on frequency of our meetings and when.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Working with myriads of people over the last decade both as a therapist and in jobs done while going to school such as bartending, one of the things I've become best at is building the therapeutic relationship.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love holdig space for adults in young adulthood into the end of life stage. As a trauma therapist integration is the heart for the enjoyment of my work. To make meaning out of life is what helps us heal. I also greatly enjoy working with couples in therapy as well.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I bring CBT into our work through the use of mindfulness. Mindfulness and CBT go hand in hand as I like to think about CBT as "thinking about thinking." This essentially is in a nutshell what the basis of mindfulness is, moment to moment awareness. I also use sensorimotor psychotherapy for trauma work, along with relational based therapy to help build the therapeutic relationship.

Transpersonal

I'm trained transpersonally. What this means is when working with a client I extend beyond just the person and look at other aspects of their lives that make them up. To look at a client through a transpersonal lens means to me to view them for the myriads of experiences that have made them who they are today with the physical body they carry.
