I am a relational and inquisitive therapist who believes that meaningful change begins with a strong, authentic connection. As a Licensed Social Worker and Licensed Addiction Counselor, I specialize in supporting women navigating life transitions, as well as challenges related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief. My approach is warm, collaborative, and deeply curious, creating a space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood. I draw from an integrated framework that includes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), parts work, and Motivational Interviewing, tailoring each session to meet the unique needs and goals of the individual. Through this flexible and compassionate approach, I help clients build insight, strengthen resilience, and move toward lasting, meaningful change.

Welcome! My name is Katherine. I am 66 yrs old. I am married to my best friend who I have been with for about a decade. I have 2 biologic children I raised mainly as a single mom, and some non-biological children who adopted me along the way. I am a survivor of child abuse and a very aggressive blood cancer. I read a lot. I write a little. I use some Chinese and Native American wellness techniques for myself and sometimes suggest them to clients. I dabble in several things I am not very good at but enjoy. I love hiking and the outdoors and almost anything to do with biology or culture. My friends tell me I am very compassionate - which I think comes from working through your own trauma. I have been a independent licensed clinical social worker for 40 yrs, and I have supervised and trained quite a few therapists and other health/mental health providers. I have a 2nd masters degree and over 10 yrs experience in nursing. I have had some unusual opportunities compared to my friends and collegues - observing civil rights trainings as a child, living with political refugees as a teen, teaching and travelling abroad - I spent 3 yrs in my 50s living in North Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer. I have a special affinity for veterans and other trauma survivors. I recently retired from nursing but keep a small online therapy practice with my first and deepest career love of psychiatric social work.

I am a compassionate and client-centered therapist who is dedicated to helping individuals navigate challenges related to depression, anxiety, and trauma. My approach to therapy is collaborative, supportive, and grounded in evidence-based practices that empower clients to better understand their experiences, build resilience, and create meaningful change in their lives. I integrate several therapeutic modalities in my work, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and mindfulness-based approaches. Through these methods, I help clients identify and challenge unhelpful or “stuck” beliefs related to past experiences, strengthen personal motivation for growth, and develop greater awareness of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in the present moment. My goal is to create a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and supported as they explore difficult emotions and experiences. Together, we work to develop practical coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and cultivate healthier perspectives that support long-term well-being. I particularly enjoy working with individuals who are navigating trauma, stress, life transitions, and mood or anxiety-related concerns. Whether you are seeking to process past experiences, manage overwhelming emotions, or build new coping strategies, therapy can be a powerful step toward healing and personal growth.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
