Marjorie has extensive experience in social work, advocacy, case management and mental health services for over 15 years. Marjorie has provided psychotherapy services for adults and children from various cultural backgrounds, she’s sensitive to the linguistic needs of the clients served (Spanish/English). Areas of focus: Assessment and diagnosis formulation, treatment planning, counseling (short term specific or situational issues), psychotherapy (long term broader range for mental illness) and crisis intervention.
During the assessment (intake) I'd usually gather background information related to your family and individual mental health history, your areas of strengths and coping, as well as your symptoms (areas of concerns / problems that bring you to therapy). During the assessment session I will help you identify your desire outcome of services to determine treatment goals (what do you want to get out of therapy). This first appointment is about 45-60 minutes.
I am straight forward, I give you honest feedback and recommendations. I might not agree with everything you say or do. And I can challenge you to do better each time. You can count on me to support you and encourage you to reach your potential.
I use this treatment method for goal-oriented psychotherapy treatment with a practical approach to developing coping tools, improve self care and learn how to challenge unhelpful thoughts, learn practical CBT strategies and have better control over thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
I focus on addressing what clients want to achieve short term without exploring the history of problems and sessions typically focus on the present and future, developing solutions, incorporating positive psychology principles, building on what's working and addressing a variety of concerns, including trauma, substance use and suicide prevention.
