Greetings! I am a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. With over 25 years of experience in health care and 16 years of experience as a nurse practitioner working in women's health, family medicine and psychiatry, I understand the interconnectedness of physical and mental wellbeing. I value empowerment and I'm here to facilitate your journey to emotional, physical, and mental well-being. I work with a wide spectrum of patients, meeting them wherever they are on their mental health journey. I have expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, panic disorder, PTSD and more. My approach to mental health is patient-centered and holistic, acknowledging the unique complexities of each person. I seek to understand each patient as a unique individual by considering the psychological, biological, environmental, and social factors which have influenced their lives. Whether you chose to use medication alone or in combination with psychotherapy, I encourage my patients to be active participants in their mental health journey and will work collaboratively to create a plan of care that is considerate and respectful of your concerns, beliefs, vulnerabilities, and wishes. Please note the following before scheduling: I do NOT perform ADULT ADHD evaluations I do NOT utilize benzodiazepines or stimulant medications I do NOT do short-term or long-term disability paperwork. FMLA will only be considered for established patients who have been seeing me for at least 3 months
During our first meeting, I will compassionately and respectfully explore your inner world including social, environmental, and other life factors. We will explore your hopes and goals of treatment. As part of understanding your story, I will obtain a detailed review of any past psychiatric, medical, social, and family history as well as past treatments (if any). Your presenting symptoms will be examined and understood in the context of both your past and present experiences. Identifying the root cause of your symptoms may be challenging and even a little scary, but I will take the time to get to know you and we will work collaboratively to develop a treatment plan that is consistent with your core beliefs. This first visit is 60 minutes, but may be extended if more time is needed.
I pride myself in providing culturally sensitive, compassionate, respectful, inclusive, nonjudgmental, and evidence-based care. I am committed to developing empathetic and long-lasting relationships with my clients as well as creating safe and shared spaces with their family members while encouraging them in their mental health journey.
I have a passion for working with populations which have unique stressors, compounded by the common stressors we all feel. These include women, adolescents and LGBTQI+ populations.
Medication can be very helpful in treating symptoms, but it has limitations. I incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy with or without medication management to help clients identify and change negative or irrational thoughts and behaviors. The use of CBT with or without medication can significantly improve ones functioning and quality of life.
I support and encourage authenticity and diversity of expression of gender and sexuality across the entire spectrum. I provide a safe, non judgmental and inclusive space for all people.
I meet my clients where they are and use motivational interviewing to help them explore and overcome the obstacles which keep them from making the changes needed to achieve emotional, physical and mental wellbeing.
I use solution focused brief treatment to help client set short term, realistic and achievable goals which will lead to long lasting positive life changes.
I provide supportive therapy, helping clients cope with current life challenges and symptoms.
