(she/her)
My name is Leila Kandahari, and I have ten years of experience providing mental health services for individuals seeking independence, quality of life, and social justice who are also diagnosed with a mental health condition or/and substance use disorder. I count it as a privilege to be invited to walk with individuals as they navigate some of their most vulnerable moments and significant life events. As a therapist and social worker, I have practiced in various public, private, and non-profit settings. When I start working with people, I meet them "where they are" to ensure they are moving with their pace.
In our first session, we have a brief introduction and talk about the reason for counseling. Then, we will continue to elaborate more on the challenges to better understand then and then establish person centered goals for treatment.
Anxiety Depression Trauma Grief and Loss Parenting Concerns Healing from abuse and injustice Substance abuse Disorders Immigration and adjustment
I work well with individuals and families who want to understand themselves more deeply, strengthen their relationships, and create healthier patterns in their lives. I especially enjoy supporting people navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or substance use concerns who are seeking meaningful and lasting change. Additionally, I have extensive experience working with service members and veterans, as well as individuals from immigrant and refugee communities who may be balancing multiple identities, cultural adjustments, or intergenerational challenges.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have several years of experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with individuals presenting with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety disorders, depression, trauma-related symptoms, and substance use. My work includes both structured CBT interventions and integrating CBT skills within broader treatment plans. I have used CBT in individual, family, and group settings and have adapted interventions for diverse populations, including immigrants, refugees, and clients with co-occurring disorders
Gottman method
I have experience using the Gottman Method with couples seeking to improve communication, rebuild trust, manage conflict, and strengthen emotional connection. My work includes integrating Gottman assessments, such as the Love Maps questions, the Sound Relationship House framework, and structured conflict-resolution exercises. I’ve used the Gottman approach with couples facing common relationship stressors as well as more complex challenges such as trauma histories, cultural differences, and recovery from infidelity or substance use.
