Hi, I’m Liz, a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey with nine years of experience working with children and their families across a variety of settings. I am passionate about supporting children’s emotional growth and helping families navigate challenges with compassion and collaboration.

I value partnering closely with caregivers and believe that consistency, communication, and compassion are essential in supporting meaningful growth and positive change for children and families.

Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time in nature through activities like kayaking, fishing, walking, and riding my dune buggy. I also love relaxing in a hammock with a good mystery novel and spending time with my dog, Harley, a 70-pound pup who is convinced she’s a lap dog.

First session

During the first session, my goal is to help children and families feel comfortable, supported, and understood. We will spend time getting to know one another, discussing the concerns that brought you to therapy, and identifying goals for treatment. I understand that starting therapy can feel unfamiliar or overwhelming, so I strive to create a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where both children and caregivers feel safe sharing their experiences. For younger children, the first session may include play, drawing, or other age-appropriate activities to help build rapport and encourage communication in a natural and comfortable way. I also value collaboration with parents and caregivers and will spend time gathering background information, answering questions, and discussing how we can work together to best support your child’s emotional and behavioral growth.

Strengths

One of my greatest strengths as a counselor is my ability to build strong, trusting relationships with children and families. I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe expressing themselves and working through challenges at their own pace. I am also skilled at adapting my therapeutic approach to meet each child’s unique developmental, emotional, and behavioral needs. With experience across school, community mental health, ABA, and in-home settings, I bring a collaborative and flexible perspective to treatment. I value partnering closely with caregivers and believe that consistency, communication, and compassion are essential in supporting meaningful growth and positive change for children and families.

Ideal clients

I have experience providing services across multiple levels of care, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, intensive in-home therapy with youth and families, and community mental health services within an elementary school setting. Throughout my work, I have supported children and adolescents presenting with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, anger, school avoidance, emotion regulation difficulties, grief, trauma, autism spectrum disorder, and other intellectual and developmental needs. I strive to provide a compassionate, collaborative, and individualized approach that supports each child’s emotional, behavioral, and social development.

Treatment methods

Play Therapy

I use play therapy techniques to help children express emotions, build coping skills, and process experiences in a developmentally appropriate way. Through a child-centered and supportive approach, I create a safe environment where children can communicate through play, creativity, and interaction when words may be difficult. I collaborate closely with caregivers to support emotional growth, strengthen relationships, and encourage healthy social and behavioral development.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help children and adolescents better understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through age-appropriate strategies and a supportive approach, I help clients identify anxious thinking patterns and manage intrusive thoughts while building healthy coping skills, emotional regulation, and confidence. My goal is to create a safe and collaborative environment where children feel empowered to challenge fears, reduce anxiety, and develop practical tools for everyday life.

Sandplay

I incorporate sand tray and play therapy techniques to help children safely explore emotions, experiences, and relationships in a creative and developmentally appropriate way. Using play, storytelling, and symbolic expression, I support children in processing difficult feelings, improving emotional regulation, and building self-awareness in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment. My approach encourages children to communicate, heal, and grow through hands-on and expressive therapeutic experiences.
