Hello, my name is Jalia. I am a doctoral-prepared (DNP), board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with dual master’s degrees in Nursing and Social Work. I completed my graduate and doctoral education at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and Samuel Merritt University (SMU). My approach to mental health care is holistic, compassionate, and individualized. I provide psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for conditions including Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Depression, Anxiety, OCD, Substance Use Disorders, Trauma, and PTSD. I have experience working with children 7-17, Transitional Age Youth (ages 18–25), adults (>65), and families and caregivers supporting loved ones with mental or physical health conditions. I believe mental health is shaped by the whole person—including biological, psychological, social, and life experiences. My clinical and scholarly interests include the impact of early life experiences on mental health, the relationship between mental and physical health, substance use, recovery and resilience, and approaches that support long-term wellness and quality of life. My goal is to create a safe, respectful, and collaborative environment where patients feel heard, understood, and empowered in their treatment. I strive to provide evidence-informed care that recognizes each person's unique experiences, strengths, and goals.

First session

During our first session, we'll take the time to get to know each other and discuss your mental and physical health history, your current concerns, and what you hope to achieve through treatment. Together, we'll create a personalized treatment plan based on your goals, values, and preferences. I'll explain your diagnosis, review treatment options, and answer any questions you may have so you feel informed and confident about your care. I believe the best outcomes come from a collaborative partnership. Many people living with mental health conditions have felt unheard or excluded from decisions about their treatment. My goal is to provide a safe, respectful, and supportive space where your voice matters, your choices are respected, and you are empowered to take an active role in your healing and recovery.

Strengths

My professional strengths include providing compassionate, evidence-based, and trauma-informed mental health care in a respectful and nonjudgmental environment. I believe in building trusting relationships and partnering with clients to develop personalized treatment plans that reflect their goals, values, and preferences. I am committed to shared decision-making, ensuring clients feel heard, informed, and empowered to participate in their care. Through thoughtful medication management, education, and ongoing support, I strive to help individuals achieve symptom relief, build resilience, and improve their overall quality of life.

Ideal clients

I provide care for adults (ages 18 and older) experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions, including PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, substance use disorders, and other psychiatric concerns. I welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds and at all stages of their mental health journey, whether they are seeking support for symptom management, recovery, or overall emotional well-being. My practice serves adults only and does not provide services for children under age 17. I also support family members and loved ones, including parents, siblings, spouses, and caregivers of individuals living with mental illness. I recognize the important role families play in recovery and offer guidance, education, and support to help them navigate the challenges of caring for someone with a mental health condition.

Treatment methods

Trauma-Informed Care

Many people experience some form of trauma during their lives, and these experiences can contribute to or worsen a variety of mental health conditions, including addiction, bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and others. For this reason, I use a trauma-informed approach to care that recognizes the impact of past experiences on mental and emotional well-being. This approach emphasizes safety, trust, collaboration, and compassion while tailoring treatment to each individual's unique needs. By addressing the effects of trauma alongside mental health symptoms, I strive to support healing, resilience, and long-term recovery.

She was absolutely amazing!!!! She has this kindness about her and she resonates calmness. I love how she will be empowering me with tools to help me push the negativity when it creeps through. I am so grateful and for the first time I feel like I’m going to be okay 🙏
