Hi! My name is Kassandra Rodriguez and I am a therapist based in New Jersey. I provide the flexibility of virtual therapy sessions to residents of New Jersey. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor. I received my masters in Counseling focusing in Mental Health from Kean University. I have experience working with young adults, adults and couples of various backgrounds and issues at both an outpatient setting for mental health and substance use.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions. During our initial session we will move at the pace you are most comfortable with. How the initial session works is: I will ask questions about your life, your background, and what brought you to therapy. The important goal of the first session is for you to see if you feel comfortable with me as your therapist.
Each therapist is an individual and of course we all bring something different to our therapy sessions. For me the my greatest strengths are being a good listener, holding each client in unconditional regard, being respectful of each clients's process and creating a comfortable space for the client.
You are a young adult feeling overwhelmed. You may be experiencing anxiety, depression, anger and low self-esteem from your current stressors, relationships or past trauma. You are struggling with confidence and relationships (including the relationship with yourself). You're not alone and together we will create the positive change you are in search of. In therapy, we will work together in a safe, non-judgmental environment so that you feel comfortable and can be your true self. I will help you achieve the changes that you want in yourself, your relationships and your life. I provide in person sessions in Hoboken, NJ and virtual sessions for New Jersey residents. We will work together to help you meet your goals, feel empowered and confident enough to say “I got this!”.
I use CBT in many sessions with clients. I like CBT because it aims to help clients deal with overwhelming issues in a more positive way by sectioning each issue into smaller parts. I have helped clients see how changing these negative patterns can improve the way they feel. I am a fan of CBT because contrary to some other talking treatments, CBT deals with the client's current problems, rather than focusing on issues from the clients past. Sometimes going into the past may be helpful as well, but it is not needed for all clients to work towards the treatment goals.
I like to use Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) because it can help people who have difficulty managing and regulating their emotions. Mindfulness, which is one of the main points of DBT, can be the most helpful. I believe that if clients are aware of their bodies then they can identify when they are beginning to feel an intense emotion. DBT can be effective for treating and managing a huge range of mental health conditions. DBT is great to use in conjunction with CBT as well.
Mindfulness based therapy is a great treatment method. We start by focusing on the here and now. Many people who actively practice mindfulness find that they’re less likely to get fixated on worries about the future, regrets over the past, are less preoccupied with concerns about success and self-esteem, and are able to form deep connections with others.
