Angela Pailevanian
I am a LCSW based in Los Angeles. I have spent the last decade extensively supporting teens, adolescents, and their families through their healing journeys. I pride myself on providing culturally sensitive therapy and a non-judgmental space to process life transitions, stressors, prior traumas, etc. My goal is to help clients deepen their understanding of themselves, develop healthy coping and communication skills, and support them in taking the actions needed in creating the life that they want. I use a variety of treatment modalities and believe that humans are naturally insight-oriented. My approach has always been down to earth and compassionate I am very knowledgable about issues related to social justice and systemic oppression for those seeking to incorporate that into their treatment.
First session
In our first session you can expect an opportunity for us to get to know each other better and establish a foundation for working together. We will discuss your current concerns, goals, and background. I will discuss my general approach and answer any questions or concerns that might arise.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths is my relatability and ability to create a warm and inviting environment where one can be vulnerable. Clients often say that they feel comfortable opening up to me. I also utilize Person-In-Environment theory where I look at all factors of a person's environment (cultural, economical, spiritual, etc) to obtain a holistic understanding of my clients and see how they impact one's life.
Ideal clients
I am open to serving clients of all backgrounds but have a lot of history navigating themes around LGBTQ identify, family addiction, immigrant family dynamics, as well as divorce and separation. I work very well with clients who have an active desire to partake in therapy and are willing to try new ways of thinking, changing old habits, and new problem solving approaches.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Through this modality we will look at negative thought patterns and examine core beliefs. We will gently utilize interventions such as thought reframing and perspective taking to help change thought patterns to become more positive and affirming.
Psychodynamic
Through this modality we will look at deep rooted thoughts and feelings, often related to prior experiences and early childhood, and how they are impacting current functioning. Through insight and self-awareness, we will explore current defense mechanisms and develop healthier coping skills and emotional patterns.
