Hi, I'm Miguel. I'm a doctorally prepared Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 11+ years of experience in mental health. For me, mental health is something very close and personal, and I believe that good care starts with truly listening — I take the time to understand your concerns, your history, and your goals before we talk about any treatment options. I know that thinking about taking medication for the first time can feel overwhelming or even nerve-wracking, and I want you to feel well informed, respected, and never pressured. My way of working is open, collaborative, and judgment-free. Many of my patients tell me that I am easy to talk to, and that means a lot to me. Your safety and your well-being are always my top priority, and I am here to walk with you every step of the way. Hola, soy Miguel. I do not prescribe controlled substances through telehealth, nor write animal support letters or provide disability documentation.

First session

In our first session, my goal is simple — to get to know you. I want to establish a genuine connection built on trust and open communication, so you feel comfortable sharing what has brought you in and what you are hoping to achieve. We will have an open conversation about your goals, any concerns you may have about treatment, and what you are looking for in your care. I will also take time to review your medical, family, and psychiatric history so that I can get a full picture of who you are — not just your symptoms. There is no pressure and no judgment, just an honest conversation to make sure we are on the same page and moving in a direction that feels right for you.

Strengths

What makes my sessions unique is the combination of clinical expertise and genuine human connection. As a doctorally prepared psychiatric nurse practitioner, I bring a deep understanding of medications and treatment options — meaning I can educate you in a way that is clear, honest, and tailored to your specific situation so you can make informed decisions about your care. At the same time, I know how to listen and hold space, allowing you to feel truly heard without rushing to fix or redirect. And when the moment calls for it, I am not afraid to respectfully push back and challenge you — because sometimes the most supportive thing a provider can do is help you see what you might not be seeing on your own. That balance of education, empathy, and honest dialogue is at the heart of how I work.

Ideal clients

I am best positioned to serve adults 18 and older who are looking for medication support to improve their quality of life and reach their mental health goals. My clients come from all walks of life — college students navigating new pressures, young professionals managing stress and burnout, creative individuals, parents juggling it all, older adults, and people who are simply trying to figure things out. Many of the people I work with have already been in therapy but feel like something is still missing — and are open to exploring whether medication support might help them finally move forward. If you are motivated to feel better and willing to be an active participant in your own care, we are likely a good fit.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

When someone is struggling with mental health, a psychiatric nurse practitioner might prescribe medication to help calm the brain's chemistry — kind of like how you'd take medicine to bring down a fever. But medication alone doesn't teach you how to handle tough emotions or negative thinking patterns. That's where CBT, or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, comes in. CBT helps patients notice when their thoughts are distorted or unhelpful — like thinking "nothing will ever get better" — and then challenge and replace those thoughts with more realistic ones. It also encourages people to change behaviors that make them feel worse, like isolating themselves or avoiding things that make them anxious. When medication and CBT are used together, they work as a team: the medication makes it easier for the brain to engage and learn, while CBT gives patients real skills they can use for the rest of their lives, even after the medication is gone.

He made me feel comfortable, genuinely made me feel like I had someone to talk to, he took my mind off of what has been afflicting me.

I found Miguel’s profile, and it resonated with me because we share a similar cultural background, and he mentioned that he is easy to talk to, which is very true. I felt completely at ease in sharing my vulnerabilities and experiences, and he was very non-judgmental while offering different treatment options that could work for me, based on my personal value system. I appreciate that greatly.
