Hello there! My name is Becky, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Along with this license, I am also a Certified Grief Professional (CGP), a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), a Certified Addictions-Informed Mental Health Professional (CAIMHP), a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), a Certified Mood Disorder Professional (CMDP), and a Certified Specialist in Anger Management (CSAM). As a therapist, it is my privilege to connect with you and assist you in developing your own journey throughout the therapeutic process. My stance on therapy is person centered, with a focus on compassion and understanding, while also trying to find that balance of "telling it like it is" in certain situations. While I do believe humor is a good source of medicine, I also believe in using various forms of systems theory, where there is an understanding that your issues and presenting problems do not happen in a vacuum. We will discuss how life's challenges, whether they occurred in childhood or during your morning walk to get coffee, have impacted your view of self and others and what that means for you moving forward. Together, we will dive into your thoughts and emotions and develop healthy ways to express yourself and manage what you have been experiencing.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, we will get to know one another to determine whether our therapist-client relationship would be a good fit. I often encourage my client to tell me what they feel comfortable telling me during that first session, so we have a solid plan for how therapy will progress. We will review intake information and assessments, as well as process any other relevant information needed for the client to feel heard and understood. I often encourage my clients to ask me questions about my style and about the therapeutic process, while I ask questions to better understand how I can help. It is true that I will infuse humor and empathy in the first session, but it is just my attempt to let you know, as my client, that I am a human being too and that I will make sure that while we may cry during session, we will also smile and laugh.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, I believe the importance I put on the therapeutic relationship is my greatest strength. I can appreciate that when my clients come to therapy, they often feel misunderstood or unheard or dismissed. It is my goal to show connection through empathy and understanding, which is why I focus hard on developing a strong client-therapist bond.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

We will explore your attachment style and how it has been developed in early childhood and throughout your life. Additionally, we will explore how your specific attachment style influences your current life and the relationships within it.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

We will explore and process the thoughts and emotions within your mind that cause maladaptive thinking and distress. We will develop ways to challenge these negative thinking patterns and replace them will ones that are more realistic and more productive that are based on evidence.

Collaborative Management and Assessment of Suicidality (CAMS)

We will work together to identify and process suicidal thoughts and tendencies. Together, we will develop techniques to manage and assess the risk of suicidality and will identify together when a higher level of care is needed.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

We will explore ways to understand your own culture and put it into the context of how you adjust and push back against certain expectations of society. In this type of therapy, the client's specific culture is used as the springboard to understand thoughts and behaviors.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

We will explore ways to identify and express thoughts and emotions in healthy and manageable ways moving forward. Together, we will regulate intense emotions and develop healthy ways to cope and decipher rational from irrational thoughts.
