I want to get to know you and what you are seeking help with as much as possible. I like to ask questions, try not to make assumptions, and keep us focused on your goals. I have a background in short-term therapy as well as ongoing, open-ended therapy. I want you to feel supported but also know you are an independent adult.
During the first session, I like to get a sense of why you are coming in, what you are hoping to get from the experience, and as much context for how you are feeling as you feel comfortable providing. I am curious about your values, what you picture therapy to look like, and how you will know you are feeling better so that we can decide together if we are a good fit. I also like to hold time for you to ask any questions you may have.
I have a multicultural, international background, am an immigrant, and grew up as a cultural and ethnic minority. As a result, I tend to feel like a guest in most spaces and can identify well with clients who struggle to take up space and voice their concerns. I believe that communication is a two-way street. I hope my clients feel heard, safe, and supported.
Clients with self-awareness and willingness to be honest with themselves, create realistic goals, and be vulnerable. I prefer working with women and individuals with immigrant and/or multicultural backgrounds. I also enjoy working with adults who are high functioning and seeking insight and new ways of coping with life challenges. I also enjoy working individually on issues relating to one's family of origin.

I believe in focusing on whatever factors appear most important and/or helpful to each client, integrating their personal history, value system, phase of life, and cultural identities and supporting them in working toward realistic goals. This may include aspects of psychodynamic, attachment theory, CBT, humanistic, multicultural, and interpersonal process.
