Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we will begin with getting to know you - understanding the current stressors or challenges that you are facing. We will also dive a little into your history with mental health treatment, a brief assessment of challenges in the past. At the end of the session, we will work together towards identifying a few therapy goals for us to work on.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Having worked with patients from many backgrounds and different traumas, Amanda understands the best therapeutic method is an integrative and collaborative one wherein the patient feels empowered to make meaningful decisions. She believes the therapy relationship is one wherein can deepen their understanding of their past experiences, trauma, and current life stressors.

Amanda is fantastic. Talking with her is like taking a deep, satisfying breath of fresh air. She is sharp as a tack while being so measured and thoughtful in her approach. She sees the patterns and connections in thought and action well before I realize them, but she doesn’t tell me, she leads me to a place where I can see and understand for myself. Her tone is warm and approachable. She will tell me the thing I don’t want to hear if it’s what I need to hear, but in a way that is gentle.

I have had 3 therapists at different points in my life before Amanda. I also have been a therapist myself. Amanda is the kind of therapist I strive to be! She is very kind yet challenges me. She is much more than nodding her head. She challenges my decisions. She asks “why do you think…” a lot. She guides me to look at myself in ways I never thought to before. I am forever grateful!

I came to Amanda in the midst of dealing with overwhelming grief about my chronic illness. I have seen other therapists before, but working with Amanda really felt like a refreshing new approach to therapy. She is open-minded, non-judgmental, humorous and intelligent. She softly challenges you to think about things differently or gently brings greater awareness to you about blind spots you may have about your own life/thinking/feelings. I would highly recommend her.
