The heart of my practice is in creating a therapeutic space where individuals can explore the corners of their emotions and experiences, navigate life’s challenges, and cultivate meaningful connections. In my integrative approach, I incorporate collaboration, introspection, humor, and creativity to empower my clients to lead fulfilling and purposeful lives. I believe in the interconnectedness of individuals within their familial, social, and cultural contexts, emphasizing the importance of understanding how these systems influence one’s psychological well-being. I am a strong LGBTQ+ ally, and my practice is based around inclusivity, social justice, and helping everyone feel both seen AND heard. Outside of providing therapy, I have also worked full time supporting people living with HIV/AIDS for the past 8 years.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session will mostly be a 'getting to know you' session - think of it as a meet and greet! Not only is it a chance for me to learn about you and your goals for therapy, but it is also a chance for you to get to know me, and ensure that we are a good fit. There will be plenty of time for heavy stuff later, so no need to feel that you need to spill it all in that first session.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have been working as a social worker for the past 12 years, and have spent time conversing with people from all walks of life. I like learning about your story as much as you are willing to share, and I love to ask questions to get you thinking deeper and more critically. I am not afraid to challenge you and give tough love when necessary! That being said, I will also be your biggest fan, your greatest hype woman, and happy to just lend a comforting ear if that is more your style. Let's chat and see if we are a match!

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

This treatment method is used best when working with clients with immediate needs, such as daily panic attacks or very pervasive anxiety.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

This treatment is useful when working with chronic illness or other uncontrollable life circumstances that may be contributing to mental health struggles.

Motivational Interviewing

I tend to ask a lot of questions, which I've found to be helpful particularly with clients who struggle to open up naturally. Motivational interviewing is also a great tool for people who struggle with substance abuse.

Narrative

I allow clients to tell their story as if they were writing a book of their life, and often will even utilize a timeline approach to guide clients in their story. While this technique is not for everyone, I have found that clients often learn a lot about themselves along the way.
