Hi! I'm Natasha, a BIPOC therapist, Latinx female, licensed clinical social worker, and mental health practitioner of 18 years. Whether life has been a series of challenges and struggles or life has just jolted you with a massive shift or shake-up, I'm here to work with you. Each of us faces different adversities and our responses to those experiences can differ based on our strengths and supports. I'm a strong believer that we each possess the superpowers we need to not only survive but thrive. Sometimes we lose sight of our superpowers, other times we have yet to discover them, and many times it is the very trait we (or others) have identified as a weakness that turns out to be our biggest source of strength. Let's work together to explore your challenges and (re)engage your strength and resiliency to get you to where you want to be. No matter the feeling, no matter the moment, we will work on finding/developing/strengthening/empowering YOU so that you can create the road map to head in the direction you desire on this journey of life.
In our first session together, we'll explore what brings you to therapy. We'll explore the relevant areas of your life that are impacted by the reasons you are choosing therapy. We will talk about your significant history that is a part of your story, along with your strengths that you have developed along your journey. We'll conclude with discussing what you hope to gain from therapy and the areas in which you want to see change and what kind of change you want. As always, I am open to your questions about my practice and the process.
My biggest strengths are developing trust and connecting with my clients by showing up as an authentic human so that my clients also feel comfortable in showing up as their authentic selves. Having worked with a wide range of people and situations, I feel that I can support people going through a variety of challenges. I have extensive experience working with people that are struggling with depressive, anxious, and trauma symptoms and behaviors. Some specific areas of expertise include parenting, grief & loss, pregnancy, adolescence, trauma, career changes, lifestyle changes, entering a new stage of life, family dynamics, chronic illness, sex and sexuality, and exploration/affirmation of one's gender identity and/or sexual orientation and other LGBTQIA+ experiences.
I appreciate working with all kinds of individuals in different stages of life because every person and stage of life has unique and valuable experiences to explore. The clients I work best with are ready to engage in a journey of exploring their strengths, areas of growth, emotions, behaviors and thoughts. I often find that I work with clients that are either feeling a sense of being stuck in their life or life choices or feeling untethered with a desire to feel grounded. The clients I serve best lean in with curiosity about themselves not only to better understand themselves but to see how to better serve themselves and make choices from that space of understanding.
My approach focuses on understanding the connection between our beliefs, feelings and behaviors. By gaining an understanding of this connection my client's can begin to reframe their beliefs and behaviors that can contribute to positive changes in their mood.
Culture has a significant place in a person's life, and I find that it's important to acknowledge the role it plays in therapy and life. Culture is not limited to race and ethnicity, but rather any important element in a person's life that makes up someone's culture and identity.
Everyone's life is a story and I embrace the role that story-telling plays in therapy and healing.
I find that in order to create change in therapy, it's invaluable to lead with a strengths-based approach rather than a deficit oriented one. When we identify strengths that we possess, we can be better equipped to create the change we need based on knowing the gifts we possess and which ones we want to further develop.
