Being your authentic self in this world can be hard, but it is possible. Often times we have things weighing us down that get in the way of that process. I want to guide you on your journey of self-discovery and help you recognize your own strengths. My wish is for you to find support and become more empowered. Counseling is one way you can begin to work through these challenges. It offers an outside perspective and a type of scaffolding as you build yourself up. Communication, stress management and dealing with the intensity of daily emotions can be overwhelming, especially when you realize that your brain is considered different from the “default.” As a counselor, I believe that when lived experience is combined with formal schooling the results can create a better connection. Let’s work together on goals that you find important, because you know yourself better than anyone else! If you connect to these thoughts, then I invite you to contact me for a free phone consult at 717-910-1440. If you prefer email, you can reach me at JOGrow154@proton.me. Finally, if you are ready to schedule you can click on the book now button. (Please note I will answer your messages between regular business hours M-F. These forms of contact are for non-urgent matters. If you are in crisis, please contact 911 or go to your nearest ER. For further crisis number in Pennsylvania, check out pa211.org)

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients can expect some knowledge and skill building, as well as time for reflection. Depending on where your needs are this can change. I will often recommend further community resources that you can access, in order to build up your foundation of support. Throughout the process, you can take away some healthy coping skills and an increased understanding of yourself. You will also learn ways that you can become your own advocate.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I practice using a combination of CBT, some DBT informed skills, person centered approach and some motivational interviewing skills to assess where you are in the stages of change. I like to utilize SMART goals which are written as a collaborative effort between the client and therapist. I also enjoy assisting clients in discovering ways of expressing their story using creative outlets such as writing, art or music. Throughout treatment, I will assign small activities for you to complete between sessions, because I do believe in a practical approach.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have several areas that I have a good deal of related knowledge and experience with, for example: working with folks who identify as neurodivergent in both school and community settings. I have also worked for 3 years with individuals who are diagnosed with both mental illness and a substance use disorder. In addition, I enjoy working with adolescents, (ages 14 and older) because I know they are trying to navigate the world of becoming an adult. Lastly, I have a passion for assisting those with chronic health conditions on their journey of grief to acceptance, as well as helping them develop their boundaries and teaching them how to advocate for their needs.
