I am Dr. Saima Sandhu, a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience in providing compassionate, evidence-based care. I specialize in helping individuals manage anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges. Using a range of therapeutic techniques, including CBT and DBT, I guide my clients toward emotional resilience and personal growth. My approach is collaborative and client-centered, focusing on empowering individuals to overcome obstacles and live more fulfilling lives.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In your first session with me, you can expect a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space where we’ll begin building a trusting therapeutic relationship. I’ll take the time to understand your concerns, background, and goals for therapy, asking questions to get a full picture of what brought you here. We will explore the challenges you're facing and identify areas where we can work together to foster growth and healing. By the end of the session, you’ll have a clearer sense of the therapeutic process, and we’ll create a plan tailored to your unique needs and goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, I believe my greatest strengths lie in my ability to create a compassionate, empathetic, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe to share their experiences. I am skilled at using evidence-based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to help clients develop practical coping strategies and achieve lasting change. My strength in actively listening and tailoring treatment to each individual’s unique needs allows me to foster a collaborative relationship that empowers clients to overcome their challenges and achieve emotional well-being.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I’ve used Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) extensively in my practice to help clients manage anxiety, depression, and stress. CBT’s structured, evidence-based approach enables clients to identify and challenge negative thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress. Through techniques like cognitive restructuring, thought records, and behavioral experiments, I guide clients in shifting their thinking and behaviors to foster healthier coping mechanisms. I find CBT particularly effective because it empowers clients to take an active role in their healing process. I tailor CBT to each individual’s needs, often incorporating mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance its impact. My goal is to help clients build resilience, gain insight, and make meaningful changes in their lives.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have extensive experience using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support clients struggling with emotional regulation, interpersonal conflicts, and impulsive behaviors. DBT’s combination of cognitive-behavioral techniques and mindfulness helps clients develop practical skills to manage intense emotions and improve relationships. In my practice, I focus on the four core DBT modules: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. I guide clients in using these tools to navigate their emotions and respond to stress in healthier ways. For instance, I teach mindfulness to help them stay grounded in the present, while distress tolerance skills help them cope with crises without resorting to harmful behaviors. DBT’s structured, skills-based approach is particularly effective for individuals dealing with borderline personality disorder, chronic stress, or mood dysregulation. I tailor DBT exercises to each client’s unique challenges, promoting gradual but meaningful improvements in their emotional and behavioral responses. By incorporating DBT into my practice, I empower clients to build resilience and achieve greater emotional balance.
