(she/her)
Welcome! My name is Dr. La Toshia Palmer, and I provide a supportive, culturally responsive space for students and young adults—particularly those from historically marginalized communities who are navigating anxiety, depression, anger, and life stressors. My approach is grounded in psychoeducation, helping clients better understand their emotions, build practical coping skills, and develop confidence in managing everyday challenges. I work with individuals who are ready to grow, heal, and strengthen their sense of identity and resilience. Together, we focus on creating clarity, emotional balance, and meaningful progress toward personal, academic, and long-term goals.
During our first session, we will begin by establishing a safe, supportive, and collaborative therapeutic relationship. Building rapport is an important part of the process, and I strive to create a space where you feel comfortable, heard, and respected. We will then move into a comprehensive intake process, where I will gather relevant background information, including your current concerns, emotional experiences, and any factors that may be impacting your well-being. Together, we will explore your goals for therapy and identify what meaningful progress looks like for you. Using this information, we will begin to collaboratively develop a personalized treatment plan that is aligned with your needs, strengths, and desired outcomes. My approach integrates psychoeducation and skill-building strategies to support emotional regulation, self-awareness, and resilience. In ongoing sessions, we will regularly revisit your goals, monitor progress, and adjust interventions as needed. The goal of our work together is to equip you with the tools, insight, and confidence to manage challenges independently and sustain your growth beyond therapy.
My greatest strengths lie in my ability to combine clinical expertise, psychoeducation, and culturally responsive care to support meaningful and lasting change. I specialize in helping students and young adults—particularly those from historically marginalized communities—better understand and manage anxiety, depression, and anger through practical, skill-based approaches. What sets my work apart is my ability to connect individual experiences to broader patterns, helping clients make sense of not only what they are feeling, but why. With a background in clinical social work, educational leadership, and behavioral health systems, I bring a holistic lens that integrates emotional, environmental, and systemic factors into the therapeutic process. My approach is both structured and empowering. I work collaboratively with clients to develop clear goals, build effective coping strategies, and track progress over time. Clients often leave sessions with tools they can immediately apply, along with a deeper sense of self-awareness, confidence, and control. I'm also deeply committed to creating a safe, affirming space where clients feel seen, heard, and respected. My goal is not only to support clients in navigating current challenges, but to equip them with the skills and resilience needed to sustain long-term growth and success.
I am best positioned to serve students and young adults of color, particularly those from historically marginalized communities, who are navigating challenges related to anxiety, depression, and anger. Many of the individuals I work with may feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or impacted by stressors connected to school, identity, relationships, or systemic barriers, and are seeking a space where they feel seen, heard, and supported. My approach is rooted in psychoeducation and empowerment, helping clients better understand their emotions, build healthy coping strategies, and strengthen their confidence and resilience. I am especially committed to supporting individuals who are working toward healing, developing a stronger sense of identity and belonging, and creating pathways toward personal, academic, and long-term success.
