Welcome, my name is Sylvia. I am a licensed mental health clinician in Virginia. I have 20 years of experience working in various mental health settings providing services to diverse populations. I use a combination of modalities such as CBT, Client-centered, and Strength-based Therapy to create the best outcome for clients based on their individual and unique needs. I support clients to identify, develop and utilize positive skills to better manage emotional challenges in their lives. If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious or depressed, I provide a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can begin to focus on improving your well-being. I am here to support you on your journey toward resilience and self-discovery.
During our first session together, you will be greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner. We will begin with introductions, discussing the challenges you are facing, as well as what you hope to achieve during therapy. This initial conversation will help me understand your unique needs, create a tailored plan for follow up sessions and give you an opportunity to ask questions.
I am a caring, supportive and collaborative therapist. I connect with clients to address challenges, as well as celebrate their successes. I provide an environment that is safe, calm and non-judgmental. I meet the clients where they are with empathy and understanding. As a therapist, I strive to ensure clients feel heard, cared for and understood during our time together.
I work with clients with various challenges including anxiety, depression, life transitions, women's issues and caregiver issues. I enjoy supporting individuals ages 18 and older that seek a supportive, non-judgmental and safe environment where they find solutions to challenges and learn better ways to cope with negative thoughts, emotions and concerns. My clients are individuals who actively participate in therapy sessions, open to feedback, and motivated to make positive changes in their lives.
Sylvia Funn offers therapy covered by Kaiser Permanente - Medicaid and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Virginia.
I have used CBT to help clients understand how thoughts, emotions and behaviors are connected. We will use CBT to recognize and reframe negative/worrisome thoughts so you can better cope with stressful situations to better manage challenging situations/stressors.
I use Client-centered Therapy in my practice to show unconditional positive regard, respect, empathy and understanding no matter what problems you are facing. My communication style is personable, supportive and collaborative. I aim to create a space that is calm, supportive and non-judgmental to build a positive therapeutic alliance. We will use PCT for goals setting, self-reflection, to gain greater insight about your values, emotions and challenges.
I utilize a strength-based approach in therapy to support and empower clients to identify and use their inner strengths to develop self-awareness, promote self-confidence, and self-care when dealing with challenging issues. Identifying your individual and unique strengths will help you find resilience, self-discovery and emotional wellness during therapy.
