LPC, 20 years of experience
The decision to connect with a mental health professional takes courage and self-awareness. The pressures of life can be overwhelming and too much to handle on our own. Most times, with our busy daily lives, we don't take the time to check in with ourselves physically, mentally, or emotionally. Being more mindful and aware of how our mind and body interact and influence each other can help reduce anxiety, depression symptoms, improve mood and give us a better understanding of not only ourselves but have the ability to appreciate the world around us through a more positive lens. My approach is cognitive-based while also using mindfulness techniques. During the therapeutic process, I aim to empower my clients to regulate their emotions and become skillful in handling those things within their control. I specialize in complex trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, exploring life transitions, and negative thought processes. I aim to create a safe space for clients to feel comfortable discussing difficult topics. I want clients to feel comfortable to be able to share their thoughts and feelings without the feeling of judgment.
In our first session together, I will first describe my counseling approach. Then, we will dive into the issue that brings you to counseling. This allows us to determine if we are a good fit. You have the right to decline me as your therapist because I acknowledge my style is not the right fit for everyone. This counseling experience is for you, and you should feel comfortable with the person you are sharing some of your deepest thoughts and feelings.
I have over 20 years of experience working with individuals with depression, anxiety, trauma, and life transitions. Individuals between the ages of 18 to 65 are my main focus. My greatest strengths are active listening, humor, patience, and self-awareness.
My experience and approach using CBT enables clients to recognize, challenge, and restructure maladaptive thinking patterns that keep them stuck. My approach allows the client to increase their understanding of their agency and ability to control their thoughts, feelings, and reactions. This method is evidence based and proven to be effective with clients of all populations with various mental health concerns.
DBT is an evidence-based practice that provides practical strategies for emotional regulation. Through these practical strategies, clients will learn to manage life stressors with confidence.
