Rachel Hutchings
Hi! My name is Rachel Hutchings, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California. I’m here to support you as you move toward healing, growth, and deeper self-understanding. We all want to feel seen and accepted for who we truly are, and my goal is to offer a non-judgmental space where you can show up authentically and feel heard. My approach to therapy is grounded in empathy, openness, and respect for your unique story, with a strong belief that you are the expert on your own life. Therapy is a collaborative process in which we work together to identify goals and build practical tools to navigate life’s challenges, drawing on your inherent strengths along the way. Because no single approach fits everyone, I use an eclectic style and integrate different therapeutic methods to best meet your individual needs. I bring experience from crisis centers, correctional, hospital, school, and community settings. I am especially passionate about supporting individuals who have experienced trauma, are navigating life transitions, or are struggling with depression or anxiety. Taking the first step toward therapy takes courage, and I’m honored to walk alongside you—offering guidance, support, and empowerment as you reconnect with your resilience and move toward meaningful change.
First session
In your first therapy session, you can expect a warm, welcoming conversation focused on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. We’ll begin with introductions and review expectations and guidelines, so our work together feels collaborative and authentic. My priority is to create a space where you feel comfortable sharing your story at your own pace. We’ll complete an intake assessment and begin identifying goals together, guided by what feels most important to you. You are the expert on your own experiences, and you will have a voice in shaping the focus and direction of our work moving forward.
Strengths
My strengths as a therapist center on creating a space where clients can be themselves. Clients have described me as compassionate, honest, and easy to talk to. I understand that life can be complex and deeply transformative, and I specialize in helping individuals navigate especially challenging times. I currently work in a rural high school and bring prior experience from correctional settings, hospitals, and community agencies, which has shaped my ability to support clients across a wide range of needs. Whether you are coping with a traumatic incident, wanting to process past experiences, have support with ongoing stressors, or are just looking to strengthen your emotional well-being, I am dedicated to supporting your mental health.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with individuals who come to therapy with a desire to improve their quality of life and are open to engaging in the process. I believe therapy can be beneficial for many people, especially when there is a willingness to reflect, grow, and work toward change. The clients I support often value a balance of warmth, empathy, non-directive and evidence-based strategies to address their challenges. I want to support clients who are looking for a safe, supportive space where they can explore their emotions, strengthen their self worth and belonging and move toward healing and personal growth.
Treatment methods
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person-centered approach because it honors clients as the experts of their own lives and creates a collaborative partnership in therapy. In our work together, my role will be to create a safe, accepting space where you feel truly heard. With empathy, respect, and genuine care, I will help you tap into your own strengths and insight, so you can find solutions that feel right for you. This approach will support personal growth, emotional well-being, and creating meaningful change—at your own pace, in a way that feels authentic and empowering.
Eclectic
I use an eclectic approach to therapy because no single method works for everyone. Each person comes to therapy with unique experiences, goals, and needs, and I believe treatment should be just as individualized. This approach allows me to adapt our work together based on what you’re facing, what you want to achieve, and what feels most helpful to you. I will tailor the therapeutic process by drawing from evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), solution-focused therapy, strength based, and motivational interviewing, so therapy feels flexible, relevant, and supportive of your personal growth.
Trauma-Informed Care
Healing from trauma is a deeply unique journey. I utilize a trauma-informed approach by recognizing how our past experiences shape the way we think, feel, and move throughout the world. In this approach, I prioritize safety and trust and seek to create an environment that will allow you to process your experiences without fear or judgment. Trauma can often take away our ability to make choices, which can lead to feeling overwhelmed and helpless. Using this approach, I will involve you in the therapeutic process to help you navigate your healing journey and take back control over your life.
