Are you wrestling with feelings of depression or anxiety? Is your consumption of alcohol becoming a problem? As we work together in therapy, we can uncover the reasons for these emotions and behaviors. Sometimes these maladaptive coping mechanisms can stem from past trauma or deeper wounds. I am a Licensed Professional counselor in the state of NJ, and I am a 6th year doctoral student working toward a PsyD. in Clinical Psychology. I operate under the theoretical background of Carl Rogers, (Humanistic). I'm also a National Board-Certified Counselor (NCC.)
My approach to therapy is modeled by a framework of positive support. I meet the client where they are at emotionally and cognitively. I feel honored to be chosen to help you on your journey through difficult times in your life. I utilize empathy with a touch of humor at times to ease the burden of heavy topics. I will validate your emotions and be with you every step of the way on your progression to positive mental health.
I have extensive educational training in the field of Psychology coupled with my own real life experiences as a human being that I bring to the table during every session. My strengths are my non-judgemental attitude, empathy, and critical thinking. I possess a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and a Master's degree in Education specializing in Counseling Psychology. Both degrees are from The University of Delaware. I am in my 6th year of Doctoral Studies working toward a PhD. in Clinical Psychology. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of New Jersey as well as a Board Certified National Certified Counselor. I have over 15 years' professional experience in the mental health field. I love animals. I love to sing. I play keyboards and do theater. I can help with mindfulness skills. Also, medication education.
Clients can expect to take away real life coping skills to use in their day to day lives. Clients can also expect to learn much information about their possible diagnosis and the symptomology it entails. Psychoeducation and information about medication management can also be provided. Most importantly, clients can realistically expect to walk away from each session feeling at least a tad better than they did going into the session.
I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focusing on a client's thought process and any irrationalities or negative thinking. I also use a humanistic approach or Rogerian method to connect with the client's emotional state.
Client's emotional state during therapy is very important. Focusing on painful emotions can help build the therapeutic relationship with the therapist.
Meeting the client where they are in life is integral for the therapeutic relationship. I use a very n0n-judgemental empathetic approach with all my clients.
