Hi there, I'm Jazmin Martinez, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) based in Los Angeles. I have experience in helping people with various challenges from managing stress, anxiety, and relationship issues, to coping with grief & loss, & depression, life changes, infertility, and healing from generational trauma. I believe that you are the expert on your story and have many strengths that I hope to assist you in identifying.
During our first session, you can expect me to prioritize what you most want to talk about, and what brings you here. I want to know what is most bothering you, how it affects you, and what you hope to be different. For our first session, I want to get to know you and better understand what else may be contributing to how you are feeling such as family dynamics, mental health history, current social supports, substance use, etc.
My approach to therapy is client-centered focusing on each person’s individual needs using different methods all while first and foremost using empathetic and active listening. My communication style is gentle, non-judgmental, calm, & casual. My primary goal is that my clients feel comfortable, comforted, cared for, and listened to.
I typically work with adults with challenges surrounding body image, self-esteem/confidence, infertility, work-related stress, communication problems, forgiveness, guilt and shame, isolation/ loneliness, grief, mood disorders, panic disorder/panic attacks, post-traumatic stress, self-love, & social anxiety.
I've been using CBT in my work with clients for the past 5 years to support clients in challenging their inner critic. We’ll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other and contribute to anxiety and depression. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns and increase positive self talk to improve your mental well-being.
MBT has been a part of my work since I started 5 years ago. Through this practice I have learned often much of our distress is contributed to living in the past/future (the should have, would have, what ifs?). In our work with bringing the mind and body back to the present moment I will teach various strategies to do so, which can reduce stress levels.
