Hi! I'm Laura, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I received my Masters from the Hawaii Pacific University and have been practicing for 7 years. I specialize in providing support and guidance to children, teens, young adults, adults, and their families facing challenges related to depression, anxiety, self-esteem, life transitions, and family conflict. I help my client's to become the best versions of themselves.
In our first session together, you can expect a warm and friendly greeting as we get to know each other. We will gradually begin to discuss specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a individualized and unique plan for us to work through in our future sessions.
As your therapist you will find that I offer a kind, inviting, and engaging presence. It is important to me that my client feels comfortable, valued, and nurtured. With this, we can enhance trust and sense of security, making you more receptive to the therapeutic work which facilitates deeper and more effective communication.
With CBT we will begin to identify specific problems and set achievable goals, then I will help you recognize and understand your negative or distorted thinking patterns. Once negative thought patterns are identified, we will work to challenge these thoughts and develop more positive and realistic ones. You will learn and practice skills to manage your symptoms such as relaxation techniques, problem-solving skills, or strategies for managing stress.
Based on our assessment, I will select and integrate techniques from various therapeutic models. For example, I might combine elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), humanistic therapy, and solution-focused therapy, depending on what fits best with your needs.
Firstly, I create a supportive, empathetic, and non-judgmental relationship with you, providing a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings. This therapy focuses on the present moment, helping to explore current feelings and experiences rather than deep diving into past events. It promotes personal growth and self-improvement by supporting you in accepting yourself as you are, and developing a positive self-image and self-acceptance. This might involve examining and challenging societal or self-imposed expectations that hinder personal growth. Through dialogue and reflection, you are guided to discover your own solutions and pathways to growth.
This is a practical, goal-oriented approach that focuses on finding solutions to current problems rather than exploring their origins. It is brief and future-focused and helps you identify and achieve your goals by applying your existing strengths and resources. We will identify and implement solutions rather than dwell on the problem.
