Antoinette Mccray

LCSW (she/her)4 years of experience

I am a licensed mental health clinician providing individual psychotherapy in a supportive, collaborative, and client-centered practice. My work integrates trauma-informed care, attachment-based perspectives, mindfulness and mind-body strategies, solution-focused interventions, and strengths-based approaches, with optional integration of Christian counseling when aligned with the client’s preferences. I specialize in supporting individuals navigating trauma, low self-esteem, identity development, emotional regulation challenges, and life transitions. My goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can increase insight, build resilience, and work toward meaningful personal growth and lasting change.

First session

In the first session, the process flows at the client’s pace, allowing them to share only what they feel comfortable discussing. The clinician provides a supportive, nonjudgmental space to explore current concerns, background, and goals for therapy while respecting the client’s readiness. Confidentiality and informed consent are reviewed, and initial rapport is established. The session is collaborative, focusing on understanding the client’s needs, identifying strengths, and beginning to outline goals for treatment without pressure or expectation to disclose everything at once.

Strengths

What makes this approach stand out is that it’s really centered on you as a whole person—not just your symptoms or what’s “wrong.” Sessions move at your pace, so you never feel rushed or pressured to share more than you’re ready for. It blends different supportive approaches in a way that fits your unique needs, helping you understand yourself better, build on your strengths, and make real, lasting changes in a way that feels natural and doable for you.

Ideal clients

I am best positioned to serve clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, stress, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and challenges with emotional regulation or self-esteem. I work well with clients who are motivated to build insight, strengthen coping skills, and make meaningful changes, even if they feel uncertain or ambivalent at the start. I also support individuals seeking a collaborative, supportive, and strengths-based therapeutic environment to clarify goals, improve functioning, and develop healthier patterns in thoughts, emotions, and relationships. I am also best positioned to serve individuals who have experienced trauma and are seeking support with low self-esteem, identity exploration, personal growth, and emotional healing. I work well with clients who are engaged in self-discovery and transformation work, including those aiming to strengthen self-worth, develop a more stable sense of identity, and build healthier relational and coping patterns. My approach supports clients in processing past experiences while fostering resilience, insight, and meaningful long-term change.

Treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

In practice, I use a Rogerian person-centered approach by listening with empathy, reflecting the client's feelings and experiences, and maintaining a nonjudgmental stance. I help clients identify their strengths and internal resources while encouraging them to explore patterns in their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors at their own pace. Through unconditional positive regard and genuine acceptance, I create a supportive environment that promotes self-awareness, insight, and personal growth.

Attachment-based

In practice, I use an attachment-based approach by exploring how early relationships and attachment experiences may influence the client's current emotions, relationships, coping strategies, and sense of self. I help clients identify patterns of connection, trust, and emotional regulation while fostering a safe and consistent therapeutic relationship. Through empathy, curiosity, and reflection, clients are supported in developing greater self-awareness, strengthening healthy relationships, and building more secure ways of relating to themselves and others.

Christian Counseling

In practice, I use a Christian counseling approach by integrating the client's faith, values, and spiritual beliefs into the therapeutic process when desired by the client. I encourage exploration of spiritual strengths, prayer, scripture, forgiveness, hope, and meaning as sources of support and resilience. Through compassionate listening and evidence-based interventions, I help clients address emotional, relational, and life challenges while honoring their Christian faith and spiritual growth.

Mind-body approach

In practice, I use a mind-body approach by helping clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviors. I incorporate techniques such as mindfulness, relaxation exercises, grounding skills, breathwork, and body awareness to support emotional regulation and stress reduction. This approach helps clients increase awareness of how their bodies respond to stress and develop healthy coping strategies that promote overall well-being.

Solution-Focused Brief Treatment

In practice, I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) by helping clients identify their strengths, existing resources, and desired outcomes rather than focusing primarily on problems. I use goal-oriented questions to explore exceptions to challenges, highlight past successes, and support clients in recognizing practical steps toward change. This approach encourages hope, builds self-efficacy, and helps clients develop achievable solutions that align with their goals.
