Hi! My name is Dr. Vicki Carter. I earned my doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Capella University, 2008. I specialize in trauma, mood and personality disorders. I have twenty years of integrative counseling experience. Integrative care speaks of treating the whole instead of individual aspects. Therefore this value speaks to exploring the physical and mental health of clients .
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
In our first session together, we will start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you are facing . This will help me create an individualized approach for us to work towards in future sessions .
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
Having worked in the field for twenty years, I have developed strong listening skills which helps me to a) understand any trauma connections and b) help create realistic and positive coping skills to improve overall wellbeing.

VirtualMy treatment methods
Psychoanalytic
I have been using psychoanalysis for my practice for the past fifteen years. This process helps many clients challenge their trauma connections to improve and manage their anxiety and depression. We will use psychoanalytic to identify past trauma events and sever current trauma responses such as trust and relationship commitment fears , recurring nightmares , etc. We will then use that knowledge to change your perspectives and living patterns, which will help you lead a less trauma triggered life.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I have been using Person-centered approaches for twenty years . This approach creates stronger therapeutic engagement between client and counselor. The therapeutic engagement process consists of treating you with utmost respects, active listening skills, gentle questions to stimulate thoughts on the onset of behavioral symptoms . Clients feel " more at home " which fosters improved therapeutic connection and engagement.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT has been a resourceful tool within my practice for twenty years. It is a helpful tool for clients struggling with negative recurring thoughts and anxiety. We will use CBT to recognize the connections of how your thoughts and feelings influence your behaviors. We will use this knowledge to change perceptions and perspectives , which will help you lead a less anxious and stressed life .
Trauma Informed Care
I have integrated trauma informed care in my practice for twenty years. Trauma informed care acknowledges the need to understand a client's life experiences in order to deliver effective behavioral health care. We will use this approach to improve engagement, treatment outcomes and your overall wellbeing.
