Hi! I am so glad that you made it to my profile. My name is Jesse Carmen-Hay and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. I received my Masters in Social Work from Boston College. I am originally from Boston, MA but moved to Los Angeles in 2019. When I am not doing therapy, I love to read, spend time outdoors, cook, try new restaurants, do yoga, and spend time with my wife, daughter, and our two labradoodles. I work with those who are struggling with various things including but not limited to: eating disorders and body image concerns, anxiety, depression, life transitions, parenthood, postpartum and various other women's mental health issues, & more. I have extensive experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and I also offer couples & sex therapy. I use a very individualized approach as no two clients are the same, and I seek to meet my clients where they are at. I like to think of myself as a patient, non judgmental listener whose main goal is to provide a safe space for those to talk about their challenges, insecurities, joys, and anything in between. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, myself, I work from a very inclusive lens. If this sounds like something you are interested in please do not hesitate to reach out. I am more than happy to do a 15 minute complimentary consultation. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is really a time for us to get to know one another. I will ask a variety of questions to better understand who you are as a person. Of course it is important to discuss whatever your presenting problem is, but I also love to know what my clients like to do, what they are interested and passion about and everything in between. Additionally, a therapeutic relationship is a two way street - there will be an opportunity to ask me questions and I never expect nor do I ever want to put pressure on a client to book another session. Whether it is your first time or 100th time doing therapy, my goal is to make you feel heard and understood.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, I like to think that I am a strong listener. I want my clients to know that I am actively listening to them and remembering what they are saying. I love when a client is surprised when I remember a name of a friend, etc. It is my job to listen to you, and I want my clients to know that I take this seriously. I also would like to think that I am extremely nonjudgmental. I never want my clients to be worried to tell me something. Society is judgmental enough - you certainly shouldn't be feeling any judgment in a therapy session!

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with clients who are interested in and want to be in therapy. I love working with clients who are going through any sort of life transition (college, career, marriage, divorce, baby, etc.) That being said, I am open and willing to work with any type of client.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I have a great deal of experience using this treatment modality as I used to work in a treatment center that utilized this treatment model. I love CPT as it allows clients to really think about all the things that could be true about a given situation.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I like using acceptance and commitment therapy in my practice for clients that are typically solution oriented.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

By utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, clients are able to really acknowledge their distorted thought patterns and work to change them.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I am not a certified DBT therapist; however, that being said, I incorporate many of the DBT principles in my work - most specifically, opposite action.

Motivational Interviewing

I love using motivational interviewing in my practice as it really allows for a therapist to meet their client where they are at.
