Do you find yourself overwhelmed emotionally, feeling persistently down/sad, stressed frequently, or worrying constantly? Are these experiences robbing you of peace and tranquility and leaving you falling short of happiness and joy in life or making it hard to go about your day? Together we will gain insight into these issues and develop concrete skills to cope in a self-empowering way so that you can achieve what it is you want in life, work, and relationships. I show up to our sessions, fully present, with curiosity and non-judgemental presence and integrate mindfulness practice as well as a cognitive approach to teach effective life-changing skills. I understand starting therapy can feel scary or overwhelming. I get this and will provide a safe comfortable space for you to ease into your therapy experience, bringing in humor, compassion, and unconditionality. Take the first brave step and contact me.
In our first session, the intake, we will start by introducing ourselves, then I will conduct an assessment (intake) to learn more about you, your identity, your presenting concerns that bring you into therapy, your life experiences, and before we end we will focus on identifying your therapy goals.
One of my strengths as a therapist is my natural ability to be fully present with my clients and help them feel comfortable and safe talking about things they don't usually share with anyone. This is very helpful for those attending therapy to work through trauma events, or for people who feel very shut down, depressed, or anxious, or have difficulty trusting others. Another special skill-based emphasis I have as a therapist is working with immigrants or 1st generation. As an immigrant myself, and someone who has worked with the immigrant population for many years, I provide a space to cope with acculturating to a new society while holding onto your beautiful cultural values and practices, as well as dealing with struggles in belonging, being seen and valued, and the losses involved in such a move.
Depression, anxiety including social anxiety, panic attacks, stress management, trauma; adults, LGBTQ, immigrant population, females, males, non-binary. I do not provide couple's therapy.
I use various therapy approaches with clients but use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in particular to address issues of depression and anxiety. Together we will be curious in looking at how your thoughts or beliefs affect your mood. We will also look at identifying what are helpful thinking approaches and what could be thought patterns that are leading you to feel lonely, worried, hopeless, sleepless, depressed, etc. We will together identify other ways to think about situations and stressors that tap into your resilient and powerful self.
As we begin our work together, we will explore how you identify yourself, your cultural values and experiences, as well as race-based trauma, and your sense of safety in the world. I will be responsible in how I use my therapy approach to address your presenting concerns with your cultural values in mind and center in the therapy process.
I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques to help clients understand their emotional and behavioral reactions. Therapy will focus on education about feelings, why feelings are important, what triggers intense feelings, while learning skills to manage emotions so they are not so intense. Additionally DBT can help you build positive experiences in relationships and with yourself.
If you are in therapy with me, you will learn compassionate based approaches and mindfulness approaches to coping with your concerns. I teach methods to being present and accepting of self. You will learn relaxation exercises like breathing techniques to center yourself when your mind is spinning with anxiety and bring a stillness. Mindfulness exercises teach you to be in the here and now rather than in the tomorrow or in the yesterday ruminating about unpleasant experiences.
