Cynthia J Stogel
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience. I have a master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Pepperdine University. I have experience working with individuals, and couples experiencing various life transitions including career, relationships, communication, infertility, grief and loss. I specialize in working with adults hoping to grow their family through foster care/adoption or independent adoption as they navigate through their journey from the beginning through post finalization.
First session
I want to create an environment where you feel safe to be yourself. We will do introductions, talk about what has brought you into therapy at this time, what you are hoping to gain from our work together, and identify your goals.
Strengths
My greatest strengths as a therapist are my ability to listen, build trust and rapport with clients in a non-judgemental, honest, empathic, warm, and accepting way to help you feel safe and respected.
Ideal clients
I can best serve clients who are engaged in the therapy process, invested in their growth, healing, self-discovery, and open to learning more about themselves.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
We will look at your thoughts, feelings and behaviors to identify those that are unhelpful, their effect on you and how to change them. 1. identify troubling situations in your life. 2. Gain awareness of your thoughts, feelings and beliefs about these situations. 3. Identify innacurate or negative thinking. 4. Reframe negative or inaccurate thinking.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Talk about and may practice mindfulness breathing, meditation or relaxation techniques so the client can be present in the moment, be aware of thoughts and feelings, reduce stress.
Strength-Based
We will focus on your strengths, positives, and needs rather than weaknesses. Work incudes building self-esteem, a positive sense of self, and self worth.
