Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The initial visit is a period for you and your therapist to get to know each other and get an idea of how to proceed. I would ask questions such as • What are your symptoms? • What brought you to therapy? • What do you feel is wrong in your life? I would also ask some questions about your history, including your childhood, education, relationships (family, romantic, friends), your current living situation, and your career I would also attempt to work with the my clients to come to an agreement about the length of your treatment, methods to be employed, and ins and outs of patient confidentiality.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

In my practice I use many evidence-based treatment techniques as part of my clinical practice. Whether seeing an individual, couples, or families, I utilizes my strong clinical background and knowledge of theory to provide the most appropriate psychotherapy tailored to the client. I utilizes various evidenced based approaches to address challenges while meeting patients where they are to collaborate and assist them along the change process. I see therapy as an opportunity to work together to connect the dots and heal by addressing life stressors and challenges that become overwhelming at times. My goal is to teach healthier ways to manage life stressors by working together to improve emotional states, outlook on life and by developing a renewed sense of purpose and drive thru a combination of personal beliefs and Christian values.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use this approach to assist my clients in identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional difficulties. I work with my clients to Identify problems, and develop a treatment plan. I also help them to learn and practice new skills, while I monitor their progress, and help them to maintain positive changes over time.

Christian Counseling

In this approach I use faith-based principles and techniques to help my clients address emotional and behavioral issues, combining spiritual practices like prayer and scripture with traditional therapeutic methods. My goal with this approach is to help my clients find a sense of peace, and healing through their faith while addressing their mental health needs.

Racial trauma treatment

With this approach i will usually use a CBT type methodology that seeks to help my clients (mostly African American) process traumatic experiences dealing with race in order to develop coping mechanisms, and foster a sense of empowerment.

Positive Psychology

With this approach i attempt to work with my client to help them focus on building a life that incorporates positive emotions, engagement, meaningful relationships, purpose, and achievements. I attempt to achieve this by using methods such as teaching mindfulness, and cultivating strengths.
