New clients continue care with this provider

Hello, I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California. I received my undergraduate degree at California State San Bernardino. I received my Masters degree from Fresno Pacific University and have been practicing for approximately 20 years. I love to help women and men navigate current life struggles and get to the root cause of their symptoms for healing. Most of my training has been in Psychodynamic and Attachment Theory which focuses on how our very first relationships directly affect our current relationship struggles.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In the first session you can expect a consistent and supportive listening ear. It is important to gain trust and rapport as we begin our therapeutic relationship. I will ask what your goals are for our time together so that I can understand how best to help you. Therapy will go at your pace and I will not rush or force you to talk about or confront things you are not ready to. I trust you as the client to set the pace for when you are ready to explore different areas of your life.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Every person is unique and will respond differently towards specific therapeutic techniques which is why I do not treat therapy with a "one size fits all" method. I want you to be an active participant in the therapeutic relationship and will ask what has and has not worked in the past. You will set the pace of when and how you decide to share information that is difficult to share. Because I have been practicing for almost 20 years I am not threatened if you tell me something isn't correct or isn't working. I welcome honest feedback as I completely trust that you know yourself best. This honesty within the therapeutic relationship is the model that serves as a corrective emotional experience that can trickle down into having other healthy and more meaningful relationships in your life.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with all types of clients, teenagers, young adults, as well as older adults. We know that any transitions in life expected or unexpected can cause incredible stress which can increase anxiety and depression. Whether its finding your identity in the teen years, gaining employment, starting a family, empty nesting, navigating retirement and aging to name a few, you should not have to deal with these things alone. I'm so happy you are reaching out for extra support, walking alongside of you in these circumstances is a gift I do not take for granted.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

Attachment theory is based on an underlying psychodynamic approach, which explores how unconscious and known past experiences affect current behavior and relationships. Our past experiences and relationships distinctly affect our relationships in the present. Trauma, loss, as well as major life events can exacerbate problems within one's relationships and prevent their success. Conversely, an attachment based therapeutic relationship can serve as a model to heal from unhealthy attachment wounds to ensure healthier relationships.

Christian Counseling

I welcome clients who wish to bring aspects of their faith into counseling sessions as part of their healing. Some clients want counseling to encompass aspects of mind, body and soul which I understand on a personal level. Others may need to process religious trauma or wounds from their church background. I have experienced and studied many religions in order to serve these clients in their healing. I also work with non-Christian clients, religion or spirituality will not be a part of therapy unless a client requests it.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Some diagnoses require a form of therapy that can provide immediate coping skills to quickly alleviate distressing symptoms. CBT offers clients effective skills to help find relief and feel better quickly, opposed to psychodynamic therapy which may take longer due to focusing on the root causes of behavior. I can customize our work together with different treatment modalities based on the time frame you have available.

Trauma Informed Care

I have taken extensive classes and trainings on trauma and trauma informed care for the past 10 years to better serve my clients. Some of the things within this specialty include childhood abuse and neglect, foster and adoptive care, environmental stressors that can lead to PTSD, panic disorder, depression and other distressing mental health conditions. Clients who have experienced traumatic events in the past or present should work with a provider that is skilled in trauma informed care.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a form of therapy that helps individuals process traumatic memories and experiences. EMDR works well for first responders, doctors/nurses, and clients who feel stuck in negative thinking that stems from a traumatic event.
