Hi! I’m Courtney Terry, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 10 years of experience supporting individuals and families across New Jersey. I earned my Master’s degree in Social Work from Rutgers University. After getting clinically licensed, I obtained my School Social Worker certificate and have dedicated my career to helping individuals in a variety of settings. I will work with you to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and self-compassion. I have worked with an array of clients of all ages and ethnicities. Whether you're a teen finding your way or an adult seeking growth, I’m here to help you become the best version of yourself. Let’s work together to create meaningful change within you, and build the life you envision!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, my goal is to create a comfortable, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where you can feel at ease being yourself. This is a time for us to get to know each other, talk about what brings you to therapy, and explore what you hope to gain from our work together. There's no pressure to have all the answers — just an open, supportive environment where you can begin your journey at your own pace.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One of my greatest strengths as a provider is my ability to create a safe, compassionate space where clients feel truly seen and heard. I bring warmth, empathy, and a strengths-based approach to each session, helping clients recognize their inner resilience and build confidence in their ability to grow and heal. With a blend of evidence-based practices and genuine human connection, I support teens and adults in moving through challenges and toward meaningful, lasting change.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

The best clients I am able to serve are individuals who are ready to embrace change and take an active role in their personal growth. This is not an easy process and I want clients who are willing to take however long it may take to get there. My client maybe a teen struggling with self-esteem or anxiety, or an adult facing life transitions or relationship challenges, I’m here to help you find them find way. They are someone who is open and motivated to exploring their strengths and willing to take steps toward creating a more fulfilling and confident version of themselves. Together, we’ll build a path forward, empowering them to unlock their full potential.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

As a therapist, I will use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help my clients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, replacing them with more constructive patterns. By working collaboratively, we will develop practical strategies to manage emotional distress, improve coping skills, and support lasting positive change.

Compassion Focused

As a therapist, I will use Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to help clients cultivate self-compassion and reduce self-criticism, particularly when dealing with shame or low self-worth. By fostering a sense of inner safety and emotional balance, we will work to develop a more supportive and understanding relationship with oneself.

Interpersonal

As a therapist, I will use Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) to help clients address relationship issues that may be contributing to their emotional distress. By focusing on communication patterns, role transitions, and unresolved conflicts, we will work together to strengthen interpersonal skills and build more supportive, fulfilling relationships.

Motivational Interviewing

As a therapist, I will use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support clients in exploring and resolving ambivalence about change. Through empathetic listening and collaborative conversation, we will enhance the client’s motivation and confidence to make meaningful, self-directed changes aligned with their values and goals.

Strength-Based

As a therapist, I will use a Strengths-Based approach to help clients recognize and build on their existing strengths, resources, and resilience. By focusing on what is working and empowering clients to draw from their capabilities, we will foster hope, confidence, and positive growth.
