Greetings! My name is Lena Baker Scott, but I prefer to be called Shelly. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Virginia. I received my Masters from the University of Southern California and have been providing care for over 20 years. I specialize in helping adults overcome symptoms of depression and anxiety, while allowing them to take the lead on their journey to recovery.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will start with introductions, and then I will allow you the opportunity to tell your story. The information shared will help me to develop a tailored treatment plan that will guide our work together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a provider is helping others identify their strengths, through a compassionate, competent lens.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with adult clients who are struggling to manage symptoms of depression and anxiety.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

For the past ten years, CBT has been my go-to treatment modality for clients battling depression and anxiety. This method has proven to be successful in helping former clients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts, while learning to implement self-help techniques. In sessions, we will use CBT to help you regulate your emotions, be mindful of negative thoughts, develop new coping skills, improve your self-esteem, and more.

Strength-Based

I am a strong proponent of focusing on strengths over deficits, which is why Strength-Based Therapy is my preferred method of treatment. Oftentimes, clients struggle to identify their strengths, but I enjoy helping them discover and use those strengths to overcome life's challenges.
