Orlando Roybal
Hi, I’m Orlando Roybal, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Southern California. I work with folks navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and the long-term impact of trauma. My approach is relational, strengths-based, and grounded in evidence-informed practices such as CBT and mindfulness, while always honoring your lived experience and cultural context. I strive to create a space that feels safe, direct, and collaborative—where you can show up fully and do meaningful work toward the life you want.
First session
In our first session, we will start by discussing what brings you to therapy now, what feels most urgent or important, and what you hope will be different in your life as a result of this work. I’ll ask questions to better understand your history, current stressors, strengths, and support systems, but this is not an interrogation. It’s a conversation. If you’re new to therapy, I will also explain how the process works, including confidentiality, collaboration, and how we set goals. Please know, you are not expected to have everything figured out or to share your entire life story in one sitting. We will move at a pace that feels safe and productive. By the end of the session, my goal is for you to feel heard, respected, and clear about next steps. We may identify initial goals, outline a tentative direction for our work, and discuss what consistency and commitment will look like moving forward. Therapy is a partnership, and from the first session, you can expect transparency, accountability, and a space where growth is both supported and challenged.
Strengths
What stands out about my approach is that it’s both relational and intentional. I hope to create a space where you feel safe enough to be honest, but I also believe therapy should lead to movement. We don’t just talk about patterns, we work to change them. I integrate evidence-based practices such as CBT, mindfulness, and relational work, tailoring them to your lived experience and goals. I’m supportive, but I’m also direct. Clients often leave with greater clarity, stronger emotional regulation, and a deeper sense of agency.
Ideal clients
I enjoy serving individuals who are ready to do meaningful work, even when that work feels uncomfortable. I work well with individuals who are used to holding it together for others but need a space where they can be honest, grounded, and supported. I also welcome individuals new to therapy who may feel unsure about where to start; part of my role is to demystify the process, move at a pace that feels safe, and build clarity together.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT in an integrative, trauma-informed way rather than as a rigid model. I draw on CBT techniques to help clients understand thought–emotion–behavior patterns and develop practical coping strategies, particularly for anxiety, depression, and life transitions. Given my background working with system-impacted populations, I apply CBT flexibly and always within the context of safety, relationship, and client empowerment.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
I use Emotionally Focused Therapy principles to help clients understand and shift emotional patterns that contribute to distress, particularly those rooted in attachment and relational experiences. EFT allows me to focus on emotional safety, attunement, and meaningful emotional change, especially with clients who have experienced trauma or relational disruption.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person-centered approach as the foundation of my clinical work. I focus on creating a therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, which allows clients to feel safe, understood, and empowered.
Reality Therapy
I use Reality Therapy principles to help clients focus on present-day choices and behaviors, particularly when they feel stuck or powerless. I emphasize accountability and agency in a supportive, non-judgmental way, and I integrate these principles with trauma-informed and relational approaches so clients feel empowered rather than blamed.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help clients clarify goals and build on strengths and existing resources. I focus on identifying what’s already working, supporting small, achievable changes, and maintaining momentum toward client-defined outcomes. I integrate SFBT with trauma-informed and relational approaches to ensure clients feel supported and understood.
