About me

Welcome! I'm Kimberly Andresen, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am so excited that you are taking steps to improving your mental health! I look forward to getting to know who you are and how we can partner together to identify and address barriers that are keeping you from the life you want to live. Life is full of ups and downs that can feel overwhelming. I hope to help you sort through the overwhelm so you can find joy in the life you are living.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Starting anything new can be a challenge, especially when it involves sharing your story with someone you have never met. If you are feeling hesitant, confused, or even scared by the idea, you are not alone. My goal for our first session is to create a safe and welcoming space where you feel comfortable sharing. I want to get to know you and hear your perspectives, strengths, and challenges. As we get to know each other, we will work together to explore what you are struggling with, whether it is anxiety, depression, or relational difficulties. I believe small changes steps taken consistently can create significant change, and that you are the expert in, well, you. My focus is to partner with you to build on your strengths and find new ways to overcome obstacles that are getting in the way of the life you want to live.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I believe the therapeutic relationship is where change begins. I may have over fifteen years of experience providing mental health services to children, adolescents, adults, and families, but you are the expert in you. I see therapy as a way to sort through the messiness of life, gain new insights and perspectives, and take steps to make the changes you want to make. I have seen the ways therapy can ease the burdens of anxiety, depression, and life stressors, and I want that for each of my clients.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I truly love to help anyone! If I had to pick an ideal client, I would say it would be a person or family who is open to change. Change can be challenging, but therapy is most effective when clients see that changes need to be made and are willing to put in the work to address them. This is never about blaming someone; life is hard! No one remains unscathed by hurt and pain and relational conflicts. I am looking for clients willing to work with me to find ways to heal from the hurts of the past, learn to experience the present with joy, and look with hope to the future.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I pull from a variety of treatment methods to build on the unique strengths and needs of each person I serve. I have helped dozens of clients over the years overcome intrusive thoughts, overwhelming anxiety, and feelings of hopelessness by using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I find that building awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions is a helpful starting point to making lasting change.

Narrative

Each person has a unique story that has shaped them into the person they are today. When life gets difficult, sometimes it feels as though the pain in our stories defines us. By using narrative therapy, I work alongside my client to integrate the painful parts of life into the story you want to live. While none of us can rewind time and erase the hurts of the past, we do not have to be defined by it. My hope is that at the end of our time together, you will be less burdened by the past and ready to dive into the next chapters of the life you want to live.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT)

The dynamic between parents and children is ever-changing, and I believe parents have an incredible opportunity to support their children's healthy development. I have worked with children and families professionally for over fifteen years. Helping children and their caregivers improve their relationships and decrease frustrating and challenging behaviors has been an honor, and almost nothing can top when families tell me at the end of treatment that they now enjoy each other.
