I'm a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) with over 13 years of healthcare experience caring for children, adolescents, and adults. I believe that seeking support is a sign of strength, and my goal is to provide a safe, compassionate, and judgment-free space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered. I specialize in the assessment and treatment of anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma-related disorders, bipolar disorder, mood disorders, and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. My approach is holistic, trauma-informed, and evidence-based, integrating thoughtful medication management with supportive psychotherapy when appropriate. I utilize techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and other evidence-based interventions to help clients develop practical coping skills and achieve lasting emotional wellness. I recognize that every person's story is unique, which is why I take the time to understand your experiences, challenges, strengths, and goals before developing a personalized treatment plan. Whether you're navigating life transitions, managing stress, healing from trauma, or seeking relief from persistent mental health symptoms, we'll work together to create a path forward that aligns with your values and goals. My diverse experience in primary care, psychiatry, and underserved communities allows me to understand the connection between physical and mental health and provide comprehensive, culturally responsive care. My philosophy is simple: Empathy. Expertise. Excellence. I am committed to helping you feel supported, understood, and confident in your journey toward healing. I look forward to partnering with you on your journey to better mental health.
First session
Your initial appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and typically lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. During this session, we will begin by discussing your concerns, goals for treatment, and the reasons that brought you to seek care. I will gather information about your mental health history, medical history, current symptoms, medications, family history, and other relevant factors to develop a thorough understanding of your overall well-being. We will also explore any emotional, behavioral, or life challenges you may be experiencing and discuss how these concerns are affecting your daily functioning. Based on the information obtained during the evaluation, I will provide my clinical assessment, discuss potential diagnoses when appropriate, and collaborate with you to develop an individualized treatment plan. This may include psychotherapy, medication management, lifestyle recommendations, or referrals to additional services when needed. To support safe and effective treatment, laboratory testing, medical records, diagnostic studies, or other healthcare information may be requested when clinically indicated. Throughout the evaluation, you are encouraged to ask questions, share concerns, and participate actively in the treatment planning process. My goal is to create a welcoming, supportive, and collaborative environment where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to take an active role in your mental health journey.
Strengths
What distinguishes my therapeutic approach is my dedication to providing highly individualized, compassionate, and person-centered care. I understand that every client brings a unique set of experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals to treatment. Rather than utilizing a one-size-fits-all approach, I take the time to develop a genuine understanding of each individual and collaboratively create a treatment plan tailored to their specific needs and desired outcomes. My practice combines evidence-based treatment with a holistic perspective, recognizing the connection between mental, emotional, physical, and social well-being. Depending on the client's needs, I integrate psychotherapy with medication management and utilize therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, mindfulness-based interventions, relaxation techniques, trauma-informed care, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), and psychoeducation. I remain flexible in my approach, adapting interventions to best support each client's stage of growth, healing, and recovery. I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, ADHD, substance use disorders, and co-occurring mental health conditions. My trauma-informed framework emphasizes safety, trust, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural sensitivity. For individuals struggling with substance use disorders, I incorporate recovery-oriented care and medication-assisted treatment when clinically appropriate. Clients often describe me as calm, approachable, supportive, and nonjudgmental. I strive to create a therapeutic environment where individuals feel safe to be authentic, explore vulnerabilities, and openly discuss life's challenges. I am also inspired by the work of Brené Brown, particularly her emphasis on courage, vulnerability, authenticity, and self-compassion as essential components of healing and personal growth. My goal extends beyond symptom reduction. I aim to help clients gain insight, strengthen resilience, develop practical coping skills, improve relationships, and build the confidence needed to navigate life's challenges while achieving lasting emotional wellness and meaningful personal growth.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are children, adolescents, adults, and older adults ages 6 and above who are seeking support to overcome emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges while building resilience and improving their overall quality of life. I enjoy working with children and adolescents who are struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, family conflict, school-related stress, or identity development. I am particularly passionate about helping young people navigate life transitions, develop healthy coping skills, strengthen self-esteem, and build secure and supportive relationships with caregivers and family members. I also work with young adults and professionals who may be experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief and loss, self-esteem concerns, or challenges related to identity, purpose, and personal growth. Many of my clients are navigating the demands of careers, education, parenting, or significant life changes and are seeking practical tools to improve emotional wellness, confidence, and balance. Additionally, I enjoy supporting adults and older adults facing mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, adjustment difficulties, substance use concerns, chronic stress, medical comorbidities, and the emotional impact of aging or caregiving responsibilities. My approach is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered, integrating evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, psychoeducation, Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), and other therapeutic modalities tailored to each individual's needs. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel empowered to explore challenges, build on their strengths, develop meaningful coping strategies, and achieve lasting emotional well-being. My goal is to help individuals gain insight, increase resilience, strengthen relationships, and create positive, sustainable changes that support long-term mental health and personal fulfillment.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have extensive experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, and substance use disorders. My CBT approach is collaborative, structured, and focused on helping clients understand the relationship between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I work with clients to identify unhelpful thinking patterns, challenge negative beliefs, and develop healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges. In treatment, I incorporate practical skill-building strategies such as behavioral activation, problem-solving, stress management, and coping skills training to encourage lasting change beyond therapy sessions. I tailor interventions to each client’s unique needs and goals, ensuring treatment remains individualized and effective. When clinically appropriate, I integrate CBT with mindfulness techniques, DBT skills, and trauma-informed approaches to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care. My goal is to equip clients with the tools and confidence needed to improve emotional well-being, build resilience, and sustain long-term recovery and personal growth.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I incorporate a trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach that acknowledges the significant impact past experiences can have on an individual’s thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and overall functioning. My priority is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment where clients feel respected, empowered, and comfortable exploring their experiences at a pace that feels appropriate for them. Through CBT, I help clients recognize how trauma may influence negative beliefs, emotional reactions, and behavioral patterns while fostering insight and self-awareness. Treatment is collaborative and individualized, focusing on identifying and restructuring unhelpful thought patterns, reducing self-criticism and self-blame, and developing healthier coping strategies. I utilize evidence-based interventions such as grounding techniques, mindfulness practices, relaxation exercises, and emotional regulation skills to promote stability and resilience. When clinically appropriate, I integrate CBT with other therapeutic modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills and Internal Family Systems (IFS), to provide comprehensive, trauma-informed care. My goal is to help clients strengthen self-compassion, regain a sense of control, improve emotional well-being, and build the confidence and resilience needed to move forward in their lives.
Child-Parent Psychotherapy
I have experience utilizing Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) to support young children and their caregivers in strengthening attachment, enhancing emotional regulation, and addressing the effects of trauma, adversity, or life stressors on the parent-child relationship. My approach is trauma-informed, relationship-based, and developmentally appropriate, recognizing that secure and nurturing caregiver-child relationships are essential to a child’s emotional, social, and psychological development. In therapy, I work collaboratively with both the child and caregiver to explore how past experiences, family dynamics, and environmental factors may influence emotional responses and behaviors. I help caregivers better understand their child’s developmental and emotional needs while fostering positive, consistent, and responsive caregiving practices. Through the use of play-based interventions, modeling, reflective guidance, and therapeutic interactions, I support children in expressing emotions safely and developing healthy coping skills. I also equip caregivers with practical strategies they can use to strengthen the parent-child relationship both during and outside of sessions. My approach is individualized and may incorporate principles of attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) when clinically appropriate. The overall goal is to promote secure attachment, strengthen family relationships, and support healthy emotional, behavioral, and developmental outcomes for the child.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I incorporate mindfulness-based interventions as a key component of treatment to support emotional wellness, stress management, and improved self-awareness. I have experience utilizing mindfulness techniques with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, and substance use disorders, helping them develop greater awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and physical experiences in a nonjudgmental and compassionate manner. My approach is individualized, practical, and designed to meet clients where they are in their therapeutic journey. I utilize strategies such as mindful breathing, grounding exercises, body awareness techniques, and present-moment focus to help clients increase emotional regulation, reduce distress, and improve their ability to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively. Mindfulness is often integrated with evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed care to enhance treatment outcomes. For individuals with trauma histories, mindfulness practices are introduced gradually and thoughtfully to ensure a sense of safety and emotional stability. My goal is to help clients develop lifelong skills that promote resilience, improve concentration and self-awareness, and enhance their ability to navigate challenges with greater balance, confidence, and emotional well-being.
Psychoeducation
Psychoeducation is an integral part of my therapeutic approach and plays a significant role in helping clients understand and actively participate in their treatment. I have extensive experience providing psychoeducation to individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, and co-occurring substance use disorders. My approach is individualized, collaborative, and presented in a clear, practical manner that aligns with each client’s level of understanding and treatment goals. I help clients develop insight into their symptoms, diagnoses, and the biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors that influence their mental health. Education may include understanding the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, as well as information regarding treatment options, medications, expected outcomes, and potential side effects. I also provide guidance on coping skills, relapse prevention, stress reduction, sleep hygiene, self-care practices, and lifestyle modifications that support emotional wellness and recovery. When appropriate, I involve family members and caregivers to strengthen support systems and promote a shared understanding of treatment goals. Rather than viewing psychoeducation as a one-time intervention, I incorporate it throughout the therapeutic process to reinforce learning, encourage engagement, and support informed decision-making. My goal is to empower clients with knowledge, confidence, and practical skills that promote treatment adherence, improved outcomes, and long-term emotional stability.
