New to Grow
My name is Tyrone Weaver Sr., and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 30 years of experience helping individuals and families heal, grow, and thrive. My professional journey has included leadership within community-based organizations, serving as a probation officer with Sacramento County, and currently serving as a school counselor with the Elk Grove Unified School District. Each of these experiences has strengthened my passion for helping people navigate challenges, recognize their strengths, and discover their capacity for growth. I’m also the founder of Capacity Changers, an organization born out of my desire to empower individuals and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. My faith and commitment to service are also an important part of who I am, including my leadership within my church community. But perhaps my greatest privilege is being a father of five—four boys and one girl. My experiences as a father, therapist, counselor, and community leader have shaped my belief that healing is possible and that therapy can be a powerful tool for reclaiming your voice, building resilience, and creating meaningful change.
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin creating a safe, supportive foundation for our work together. I’ll invite you to share what brings you to therapy, what you hope to gain from our work, and anything you feel is important for me to understand about your experience. There is no expectation to have everything figured out or to share anything before you feel ready. I’ll listen with compassion and curiosity, answer any questions you may have, and work with you to identify initial goals for therapy. Most importantly, the first session is about beginning to build a trusting relationship where you feel heard, respected, and supported.
Therapy is a collaborative process focused on creating a safe space for healing, self-understanding, and growth. I will listen with compassion, validate your experiences, and provide a nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and understood. When you’re ready, I may gently encourage you to explore patterns, beliefs, or behaviors that may be keeping you from your goals. This is not about criticism, but about developing insight and new possibilities. Your emotional safety and pace will always be respected. We’ll navigate difficult moments together and work toward meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.
My ideal client is anyone who may be struggling with stress, relationships, identity, life transitions, emotional challenges, or simply feeling stuck. I have a particular passion for working with people of color, youth, young adults, and families, drawing on my personal and professional experiences to provide a culturally responsive and compassionate space. I work best with clients who are ready to be heard without judgment, recognize their strengths, and explore possibilities for meaningful change. Through an eclectic approach to therapy, I tailor my work to each client’s unique needs, helping them discover their capacity to heal, grow, and thrive.
