Hello! My name is Johnathan Morgan and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of North Carolina with a Masters in Social Work and thousands of hours of clinical experience. I work with adults, children, and adolescents of all ages and I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders, attention deficit disorder, parenting, loss of meaning, phobias, impulse control disorders, and relationships.
Before our first session begins I will reach out to you personally for the intake process, and answer any preliminary questions that you have. When we meet I will give you an outline of services, expound on my treatment method, describe confidentiality and contact, and ask probing questions to develop a clear clinical picture. This is a collaborative process, and I am careful to ensure that it is the client's interpretation of the circumstances that are of most importance. Afterword, we will develop a treatment plan that is measurable to begin the process of working toward resolution to the client's preferred direction and satisfaction.
Born and raised in NC, I watched from childhood as my family went from living in a tent in the woods to owning multiple properties. I have learned that a life can be changed through steadfast perseverance, and I apply this belief in treatment.
Are you an adult suffering from a crisis of meaning? Are you a parent who is working hard maintaining a household while your child/adolescent is displaying maladaptive behaviors? My approach to counseling involves clearly defining the problem as well as defining what success looks like from the client's perspective. Utilizing Strengths-Based Solution-Focused Therapy, I measure symptoms and track progress through the course of therapy sessions so that the client can understand clearly where they are in the therapeutic process; how far they have come, and what is left to accomplish.
I find that generally it is useful most frequently throughout the broadest category of issues, which is why along with motivational interviewing it is my default method.
Spend less time talking TO clients and more time getting clients talking about themselves, evoking reflection, motivations, and coming to a better understanding of themselves.
"People are experts of their own lives" and "People make the best decisions for themselves when they have all the information" are to creeds I believe wholeheartedly. I believe that when clients can see their circumstances and potential solutions in the highest level of resolution they are most likely to take action to change, and change the way they are viewing their problematic circumstances.
