LPC, 6 years of experience
Hello my name is Andrea Cordell Proper and I am an LCPC and MD Board Approved Supervisor in Frederick, MD. I believe the journey surrounding mental health is uniquely individual and deeply personal. I bring empathy, trust, understanding and humor to each experience. Working with adults across a life span. Areas of expertise include postpartum mood disorders, perimenopausal and menopausal impacts on mental health, trauma, anxiety and ADHD. I have special interest in best practices for treating perinatal mood disorders and integrative multicultural approach to female bodied people. I have lectured as well as designed coursework to further the education, and awareness of best practices for treating postpartum mood disorders across diverse cultures and demographics as well as guest speaker at various colleges and universities on mental health needs related to reproductive health. Meeting people where they are at, holding space and allowing a safe and compassionate place to do the work of healing is my goal with every person.
In our first session you can expect some questions to better understand the areas of concern you have and together work to identify your needs and a plan to navigate your therapeutic journey.
Having worked with individuals for many years in some of their most vulnerable moments has allowed me to hold space for and attune to most people. This eclectic style allows for acceptance and understanding of people in a non-judgmental safe but challenging space. I do my best to see you in mind, body and spirit.
I love working with female bodied individuals during various stages of life. I support all people and focus on improving functionality of life and conditioning old or learned behaviors that no longer support your life while celebrating your strengths.
Meeting clients where they are at, using a variety of modalities for healing.
Taking a holistic approach to care means considering all the factors that make up an individual, their community, customs and traditions and values.

Andrea has been amazing with helping me through a few large life events that have caused a lot of stress and anxiety for me and my family. She listens intently and has given me several tools to help me process everything I’m going through. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking mental health assistance.

Andrea is incredibly quick on the draw. When meeting a new therapist, I usually feel a sense of dread at explaining my background and current issues. But with Andrea, she has made it painless to share the past and she seamlessly connects the dots to how my past influences the present. She's smart, and authentic through and through. I appreciate that she's willing to share personal anecdotes as well. Most importantly, Andrea is solution oriented - she will stop me mid sentence to point out distorted thinking in the same way a trainer at a gym would stop you from using a machine in a way that you'll end up hurting yourself. I'm grateful to have found Andrea and I highly recommend her.
