I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and the owner of Karga Psychiatric Nursing. I provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care for adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, mood disorders, OCD, and other mental health concerns. I believe that the best treatment begins with listening. Every person has a unique story, and I strive to create a welcoming, judgment-free space where you feel heard, respected, and supported. Together, we will develop a personalized treatment plan that may include medication management, supportive therapy, education, and practical strategies to help you achieve your goals. My approach is collaborative and focused on long-term wellness rather than simply treating symptoms. I value open communication and believe that building a trusting therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of successful care. Whether you are seeking help for a new concern or have been managing mental health challenges for years, I will work alongside you every step of the way. My goal is to provide thoughtful, individualized care that helps you feel better, build resilience, and improve your overall quality of life.

First session

During your first appointment, my goal is to get to know you as a whole person, not just your symptoms. I like to take my time so I can better understand your concerns, your experiences, and what has brought you to seek care at this point in your life. During the intake, I will ask questions about your childhood, adolescent years, and important life experiences that may have shaped your emotional and mental well-being. We will also review your current symptoms, previous mental health treatment, therapists or psychiatrists you have seen, hospitalizations, and any psychiatric medications you have taken in the past, including what worked well and what did not. Your medical history is equally important. Please be prepared to discuss your current medical conditions, past surgeries, allergies, and all medications and supplements you are currently taking. I will also ask about your family’s medical and psychiatric history, as this information can provide valuable insight into your care. Please don’t be surprised if we spend most of the first visit gathering information rather than focusing immediately on medication management. A thoughtful evaluation helps me make safe, informed recommendations instead of rushing to prescribe a medication that may not be the best fit. Of course, every situation is unique, and if there is an urgent concern, I will address it appropriately. I approach every patient as an individual, and treatment decisions are always made on a case-by-case basis. My goal is for you to leave the first appointment feeling heard, understood, and with a clear plan for the next steps in your treatment

Strengths

I believe every patient deserves a fresh start. While I carefully review previous diagnoses, treatment records, and medication history, I don’t assume they tell the whole story. I approach each person with an open mind and take the time to understand who you are, what you’ve experienced, and whether your previous diagnosis and treatment still fit your current situation. Sometimes they do, and sometimes we discover something different. One of my greatest strengths is listening. I take the time to understand your story rather than focusing only on symptoms. My goal is to identify the root of what is happening so we can develop a treatment plan that truly fits your needs instead of relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. Patients often appreciate that I am responsive, compassionate, and genuinely invested in their care. I strive to answer questions promptly, provide clear explanations, and create a space where you feel heard and respected. My communication style is honest and straightforward. I believe that clear, open conversations are an important part of building trust. While I always aim to be kind and respectful, I won’t avoid difficult topics or tell you only what you want to hear. My goal is to provide thoughtful, evidence-based guidance while working together to help you achieve lasting improvement. I am passionate about psychiatry and consider it a privilege to be part of each patient’s journey toward better mental health. Controlled Substance Prescribing Philosophy My treatment philosophy is to minimize the use of controlled substances whenever clinically appropriate, particularly benzodiazepines such as Xanax (alprazolam), Ativan (lorazepam), Valium (diazepam), and Klonopin (clonazepam). In many cases, there are other medications and therapeutic approaches that can effectively address anxiety, panic, insomnia, and related symptoms without the risks associated with long-term benzodiazepine use. When benzodiazepines are clinically appropriate, I generally prescribe them for short-term use only. If you currently take a benzodiazepine on a daily or long-term basis and wish to continue it without changes, my practice may not be the best fit for your needs. However, if you would like to work toward reducing or discontinuing benzodiazepines, I am happy to collaborate with you on an individualized, gradual tapering plan while discussing alternative treatment options to help manage your symptoms safely and effectively.

Ideal clients

I primarily work with adults and find that I am best suited to individuals between the ages of 23 and 64, although I also see younger and older adults on a case-by-case basis. I enjoy working with patients who are ready to better understand themselves, improve their mental health, and actively participate in their treatment. I treat a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, trauma-related conditions, and other psychiatric concerns. My ideal clients are open to collaboration, honest communication, and developing a treatment plan that is individualized rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. I am particularly well suited for patients who are looking for a thoughtful evaluation, including those who would like a fresh review of previous diagnoses or medications. I believe treatment should evolve as people change, and I take the time to ensure that your diagnosis and treatment plan continue to fit your current needs. While I prescribe controlled medications when they are clinically appropriate, I generally am not the best fit for individuals seeking long-term management of high-dose benzodiazepines or sedative medications without considering safer alternatives. I also do not specialize in treating substance use disorders as a primary diagnosis. If substance use is your primary concern, I may recommend working with a provider who has specialized training in addiction medicine. If you are looking for a provider who values careful assessment, compassionate listening, honest communication, and evidence-based care, I would be honored to partner with you on your mental health journey.

Treatment methods

Supportive

My practice combines evidence-based medication management with therapeutic support to provide comprehensive psychiatric care. I believe that medication is only one part of treatment. Understanding your experiences, thought patterns, relationships, and daily challenges is equally important in helping you achieve lasting improvement. During our appointments, I incorporate supportive therapy, cognitive and behavioral strategies, motivational interviewing, and psychoeducation alongside medication management. We work together to better understand your symptoms, identify barriers to progress, develop healthy coping skills, and make thoughtful decisions about your treatment. Rather than simply prescribing medications, I take time to explain why I recommend a particular treatment, discuss potential benefits and side effects, and involve you in the decision-making process. My goal is to help you better understand your mental health while creating a treatment plan that reflects your individual needs and goals. Every patient is different, so I tailor my approach to each person instead of following the same formula for everyone. Whether we are adjusting medications, discussing life stressors, or exploring patterns that contribute to your symptoms, my focus is on providing compassionate, evidence-based care that supports both symptom relief and long-term well-being.

Highly intelligent, open minded and authentic. I highly recommend her to anybody and everybody that is seeking therapy or medication management. She also works with veterans and military personnel and can share multiple commonalities that many civilians providers may not understand.
