I am a compassionate person. I prefer to collaborate with clients, rather than make the treatment plan independently of the client. I strongly believe that therapy can be most impactful when the clients take ownership and are actively engaged in the treatment plan. In my full-time work, I am a hospice social worker, in addition to emergency department SW. Both of these experiences allow me the knowledge of supporting crises, suicidal thoughts, and many other issues. I am very progressive, and not particularly a spiritual person, though I welcome spirituality.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I would like to get to know you as a person, and not just as the reason you are seeking treatment. The importance of getting to know clients from a holistic approach is important when creating a care plan. Considering all aspects of patient's lives can be very informative, and help direct me with suggestions for treatment and collaboration with you. Be prepared to share some things that might be uncomfortable, though I will not push you to talk about anything you are not comfortable with. Building a therapeutic relationship with my clients is an important part of our work together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Compassion, patience, continuously seeking knowledge, learning, and growing my skills as a therapist by also utilizing current research within my field and interests. I listen, and collaborate well with my clients to find out their goals and include them in creating the care plan. In addition, I am very familiar with other community resources in my area, should other needs arise.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

In my practice, I utilize this therapeutic modality which is focused on the impact of trauma. With the idea of specifically concentrating on the impact of trauma on behavior, mental health, and ability to engage in treatment. Trauma-informed therapists assume that a client could have a trauma history and will take steps to It is important to note, that the goal is to avoid inadvertently triggering or re-traumatizing you, but to provide support.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Within my practice, CBT is valuable to support emotional changes. For example, we would focus on managing mental health symptoms, learning coping techniques, identifying ways to manage emotions, and overcome emotional trauma. We would also focus on coping with other issues that come up, such as medical illness or chronic physical symptoms.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Though I am not a certified DBT clinician, I am familiar with many aspects of this model. So, while I incorporate DBT, I cannot provide comprehensive DBT. Though, DBT is one of my favorite tools to use. I tend to incorporate particular skills of DBT into my practice. The focus is on problem-solving and acceptance-based strategies. We also work with emotional distress tolerance skills. I work to help clients take these skills and incorporate them into their lives, to improve the quality of their lives.

Grief Therapy

Working in hospice full-time, I have provided grief therapy extensively. This included anticipatory grief, acceptance, and grief after loss. The goal would be to help you more toward the different steps in the grieving process, and continuing to maintain function. We would also work to explore your particular feelings and thoughts related to the grief. Now, remember grief doesn't have to be the death of someone, there are many things that we grieve. For example a long-term illness, that might cause loss of independence. In that case, you are grieving what you used to be able to do, and working to accept the new situation.
