My name is Rhianna French and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Nationally Certified Counselor. I have training in many different approaches and techniques to service clients in unique ways that best fit their unique concerns and personality. I take an eclectic approach to counseling matching various approaches and theories to every client's specific need. I often utilize humanistic approaches, which focus on each person's uniqueness and potential. I also have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) in addition to many other techniques.
In our first session I will focus mostly on getting to know you and allow you to get to know me. Questions we will address include the following: What brings you to counseling today? What are your biggest concerns? Do you have any fears or worries about the counseling process? What has your past experiences in counseling been like, if any? How can I best help you be successful? How long do you expect to be in counseling? Are you looking for short term solution focused or are you hoping to have someone who you can speak with and get support from on a long term basis? I will also allow you to ask any questions that you may have about the process!
I find it best to be genuine in session. This means my style in session is the same as I am in my daily life. I am very laid back and open. The environment I create is a place where people feel just as comfortable telling me about how their day went as they do telling me about the darkest times of their life. I also have a sense of humor and don't take life too seriously.
I primarily focus on everyone's experience as a human. I believe everyone desires to live up to their full potential, but sometimes life can give us challenges that keep us from meeting that potential. In addition, each person's concerns are unique and I utilize techniques from a variety of therapeutic approaches to personalized a treatment plan based on each individual's needs.
I have training in ACT techniques to increase distress tolerance and mindfulness.
I utilize CBT techniques to help explore the relationship between thoughts and feelings. This allows us to work together to challenge negative core beliefs and develop new views on the world and self.
I'm trained in CAMS care. This utilizes a very structured evidence based approach to address suicidality and self harm.
This approach allows me to combine techniques and approaches to develop an individualized plan for each client.
