I’m Jose, a bilingual Latinx and LGBTQI+ Psychiatric and Family Nurse Practitioner providing compassionate, personalized mental health care. I work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, sleep issues, mood changes, substance use concerns, and life stressors. My goal is to create a welcoming and affirming space where you feel heard, respected, and supported. My background as both a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner allows me to look at the whole person, not just a diagnosis. I consider how mental health, physical health, medications, sleep, stress, culture, identity, relationships, and substance use can all affect your well-being. I have experience supporting clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns, including those working toward recovery, relapse prevention, emotional stability, and healthier coping patterns. My practice is warm, collaborative, affirming, and practical. Together, we will work to better understand what you are experiencing and create a treatment plan that feels realistic for your life. Care may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management, supportive strategies, substance use treatment support, lifestyle changes, therapy recommendations, and coordination with other providers when needed.

First session

In our first session, we’ll take time to understand what brings you to care and what you hope to feel or change. I’ll ask about your current symptoms, mental health history, medical history, medications, sleep, stressors, substance use, strengths, and goals. My style is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental, so you can share at your own pace. Together, we’ll discuss possible diagnoses, treatment options, and next steps. If medication may be helpful, I’ll explain the risks, benefits, and alternatives so you can make an informed decision. By the end of the visit, we’ll create a personalized plan that may include medication management, supportive strategies, lifestyle changes, therapy recommendations, or coordination with other providers.

Strengths

I bring warmth, curiosity, and a whole-person perspective to each session. As both a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner, I understand how mental health, physical health, medications, sleep, stress, culture, identity, and life experiences can all affect well-being. My approach stands out because it is collaborative, practical, and affirming. I take time to listen, explain options clearly, and create treatment plans that feel realistic for your life. As a bilingual Latinx and LGBTQI+ provider, I also value culturally responsive care and strive to create a space where clients feel respected, understood, and empowered.

Ideal clients

I am best positioned to serve clients who are looking for compassionate, practical, and culturally affirming mental health care. Many of my clients come to treatment feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, emotionally exhausted, distracted, stuck, or unsure why they are not feeling like themselves. Others are navigating trauma, insomnia, mood changes, substance use concerns, identity-related stress, relationship challenges, work or school pressure, or major life transitions. I especially enjoy working with clients who want to better understand the connection between their mental health, physical health, lifestyle, culture, relationships, and daily functioning. As a bilingual Latinx and LGBTQI+ psychiatric nurse practitioner, I strive to create a space where clients from diverse backgrounds feel seen, respected, and supported. I am also well positioned to support Latino, Spanish-speaking, LGBTQI+, BIPOC, and underserved clients who may have felt misunderstood or overlooked in previous healthcare experiences. My ideal client does not need to have everything figured out before starting care. They may simply know that something feels off and they want support making sense of it. I work well with clients who are open to collaboration, honest conversation, and creating a realistic treatment plan together. Goals may include reducing symptoms, improving sleep, stabilizing mood, managing ADHD, decreasing anxiety, addressing substance use patterns, strengthening coping skills, improving functioning, or feeling more grounded and empowered in daily life.

Treatment methods

Supportive

I have experience supporting clients with substance use concerns in outpatient, detox, and rehabilitation settings, including individuals with co-occurring anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, insomnia, and mood symptoms. My approach is compassionate, nonjudgmental, and recovery-focused. I work to understand each client’s substance use patterns, triggers, mental health symptoms, medical history, goals, and readiness for change. Treatment may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management when appropriate, relapse prevention planning, motivational interviewing, harm reduction strategies, coping skills, sleep support, and coordination with therapists, primary care providers, or recovery programs. I believe substance use treatment works best when clients feel respected rather than shamed. My goal is to help clients build insight, reduce risk, strengthen coping tools, and move toward recovery in a way that feels realistic and sustainable.
