Hi There, I'm Jarad. It's great to meet you! Here's just a little about me. Prior to becoming a licensed clinical social worker, I worked in education and education policy for almost six years. I helped open schools and pass state and local laws to support children in their educational journey. What was missing for me, however, was what to do for children whose mental health needs were not being met. We could build beautiful schools, have amazing teachers, but if a child experienced trauma, had a death in the family or had parents going through a divorce, I often found myself at a loss as to what to do, and thus my journey into exploring mental health began. Since graduating from the University of Southern California’s School of Social Work in 2013, I have worked with clients from all backgrounds and circumstances. I’ve counseled seniors struggling with adult children to new brand new parents adjusting to parenthood. I’ve helped children and adults process grief and trauma as well as helping to monitor and aid individuals and families in crisis.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Therapy can be scary. Being vulnerable isn’t always easy. I try to be as casual as possible when we’re speaking. I rarely use jargon or “therapist speak.” I probably won’t focus on a diagnosis in-session unless it’s helpful. I like for my clients to see me as a guide more than anything. My approach has allowed me to work successfully with children and families as well as with highly motivated adults who are experiencing stress, sadness, anxiety and others who are ready to make change. When we first consider working together, we'll meet via this interface and discuss the challenges that you might need help with. I'm going to start by asking a few questions to make sure that everyone involved is safe and ready to participate. Then I'll ask about the history of the problem (which may get a little personal). Then we'll just have a frank conversation about what we think is best going forward. If we think we’re a good fit for each other, we’ll schedule the next appointment. One question I hope that you can answer is, if you were to wave your magic wand, what is the biggest outcome you're hoping to achieve by the end of therapy?

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I think sometimes, we can be overly critical of ourselves. Sometimes, we have very good reasons for feeling sad or disappointed or unhappy. My experience is that if we can be compassionate about the fact that we are human, that we have real feelings and if we are open to learning new skills and seeking new opportunities, just about any emotional distress can be resolved. My clients describe me as compassionate and easy to talk to.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I'm best positioned to serve children and families struggling with unwanted behaviors and interpersonal conflict as well as children and adults struggling with anxiety and depression. But if something in this introduction speaks to you and you think I can be helpful, please feel free to reach out. All of my sessions are via telehealth at this time.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

This particular practice acknowledges that we are human and fallible and that's ok. A lot of my patients have perfectly valid reasons for feeling anxious, scared, sad and stressed and then beat themselves up for feeling their feelings. The truth is that we all have bad moments, we sometimes just need a little guidance to keep from getting stuck in that moment.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

This treatment method essentially lets us determine if every thought that comes into our minds is true (sometimes they're not) and whether our responses and feelings are helpful (often they are not). The way I use these techniques is to test and see if maybe a slightly different perspective can be helpful.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

My experience as a therapist is that my patients want to be out of pain as quickly as possible. I believe that therapy doesn't necessarily have to be long and painful (sometimes it does, but definitely not always). I pride myself on helping my patients find the solutions and strategies that work best for them.
