New to Grow
I found my career as a therapist as a secondary one which has provided exposure to multiple therapeutic settings. My start in community mental health gifted me with a well-rounded, diverse level of training and exposure to the human experience. More importantly, my background reinforced the importance and power of the therapeutic relationship. I am curious, empathetic, affirming, and compassionate. My sense of humor often finds its way into our sessions (as do my dogs, if you're so inclined!). Together, we will map your treatment, so that you are clear as to what to expect, regardless of the intervention. We start at the place you are ready, reinforcing the strengths and resiliency that you already exhibit. Together, we build from there to address what you came in for.. Therapy is hard work, but it is also profoundly full, rewarding and empowering. It's important for me to honor both the challenges and rewards.
Our first session is aimed at getting to know each other and for me to discover your intention for treatment. I will ask typical health history questions, provide assessments, and listen to the parts of your story that you are ready to share. You also get to ask the questions, so that I can orient you to treatment, let you know what to expect regarding both policies and treatment, and then create a plan based on your needs and preferences.
My work is guided by collaboration, flexibility and curiosity. From the start, I aim to develop a partnership with you. I work from an integrative and collaborative framework, drawing from multiple evidence-based approaches to meet you where you are, rather than molding sessions into a singular approach. We explore together, making room for both structure and depth depending on what you need at that time. I tailor my methods toward your needs, and although sessions may be structured similarly, I employ tools, such as mindfulness, somatic awareness, emotions processing, or simply holding space for what is present. As part of our collaboration, I encourage open and meaningful communication and feedback so that this space is most the effective for you.
Traumatic stress can present in various ways. While we typically equate trauma with PTSD, we can also see the effects of traumatic stress as grief, mood shifts, interpersonal difficulties and, anxiety/phobias. I work with a diverse range of clients across the lifespan, from survivors of sexual trauma to intimate partner violence, to first responders. I value working with those who are ready to explore what post-traumatic growth entails. I am affirming to neurodiverse and LGBTQIA+ identities. Many of my current clients have experiences that no longer allow them to feel safe in their bodies and are ready to feel in control, again. As a neurodivergent person, I also treat ADHD. Finally, I am trained in CBT-PSB, which supports children and teens who have engaged in problematic sexual behavior.
Other specialties
I identify as
EMDR
Sometimes our experiences and memories affect us in a variety of ways. With Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), I can support you in shifting beliefs, creating improved regulation, so you can reconnect with traits and strengths that may feel difficult to find, currently. EMDR begins with building safety through regulation and planning,. When you feel ready to address the parts of your history that are difficult to manage, I support you in reducing the intensity of reactions to those experiences, allowing you to feel more in control of your life.
Relational
It is my priority to create a space in which healing happens within the therapeutic relationship, as our wellbeing has often been influenced by our relationships and the patterns that developed. Together with curiosity, we explore and reshape those patterns through building awareness and space for correction. My role is to engage with you, not as an expert, but as a witness, reflecting upon historical relationship dynamics, identity, culture, and power and their influence on our well being.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
We are all doing the best we can, yet, we also desire change. With focus on developing skills to support building mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness, DBT skills help us develop a foundation to explore our values, goals, and the changes we'd like to make in order to live our lives more effectively.
