20 years of experience

I am a dually board certified and doctorally prepared Psychiatric and Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner who specializes in psychiatric evaluations, medication management and therapeutic support of patients diagnosed with (but not limited to) Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Insomnia, and other mood disorders. I take an integrative and collaborative approach to care, encouraging my patients to seek support from individual psychotherapists, support groups, and other mental health clinicians. I also encourage patients to implement important lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet, exercise, meditation, social connections, and mindfulness training. As a PMHNP, I am fortunate to encounter the rewarding and humbling aspects of assisting others. I view it as a tremendous honor to offer guidance and encouragement to individuals during their most difficult times. As beautifully expressed by Albert Pine, the impact of our actions on ourselves fades away with time. However, the positive influence we have on others and the world endures eternally, becoming a timeless legacy. "What we have done for ourselves dies with us. What we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal." -Albert Pine

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our introductory visit, we will begin by getting to know each other and establishing a comfortable environment. This initial session is dedicated to discussing the specifics of your situation and the reasons for seeking treatment. It is my goal to provide a safe space where you can freely express your concerns. To ensure that I have a comprehensive understanding of your needs, I may need to ask you specific questions, however, I want to emphasize that I value your input and encourage you to guide the session as we explore your thoughts and experiences. This interactive approach will allow us to build rapport and trust while enabling me to create a tailored plan for our future sessions.

I consider it a great privilege to support individuals during their most challenging moments, a responsibility that I value.Strong communication skills are vital in the practice of medicine, especially in psychatiry. It is essential for me to be empathetic and understanding, as these qualities are crucial in providing effective care. Additionally, exhibiting patience and actively listening, even in the face of complex and intense emotions, is essential in delivering high-quality treatment. In my role, it is paramount that I possess a comprehensive understanding of the psychological and social dimensions of illness and how it influences behavior. My treatment methods

Integrative

As a doctorally prepared Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practiioner with over 20+ years of healthcare experience, I possess a strong foundation for understanding and treating the complexities of mental health. I take a comprehensive and holistic approach, encompassing various therapeutic modalities to address an individuals needs. Integrative psychiatry recognizes the value of traditional treatments, such as medications, while understanding these are not the only treatment options. My approach aligns with the evolving understanding of mental health as a complex interplay of biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors. Taking a whole-person approach to mental health, is backed by solid scientific evidence and by analyzing your lifestyle preference along with your individual and family history, I will formulate a personalized treatment plan based on your unique needs. My treatments involve conventional methods such as prescribing medications, but also personalized and complementary support methods. This frequently blends nutritional counseling, lifestyle counseling, guided imagery such as mindfulness, bodywork, and other alternative treatments.

Supportive

Supportive psychotherapy revolves around providing emotional support, encouragement, and validation during challenging life circumstances or psychological difficulties. By creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can openly discuss your feelings, concerns, and problems we will focus on addressing your immediate and present concerns, such as relationship difficulties, family conflicts, or work-related stress. I will offer you practical advice and guidance specifically tailored to your needs.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, MBCT, is a modified form of cognitive therapy that incorporates mindfulness practices such as present moment awareness, meditation, and breathing exercises. As an advocate of mindfulness-based therapy, I can teach you how to be fully present and break free from negative thought patterns that can lead to a mood-disordered state. This therapy can assist you in combating a challenging state of mind before it becomes overwhelming.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

As a proponent of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), I will provide an introduction to the the main concepts and strategies such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness, in addition to referrals for groups and certified therapists if necessary.
