Hello-My name is Ryan, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) based out of Southern California (Long Beach). I work with young people and adults in an individual setting, and I specialize in men's issues, substance use disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, and anger issues. It is my goal to support you in getting back on track and finding your way again. I will help you identify negative self-talk and faulty cognitive errors that are causing emotional pain and discomfort. My approach involves providing you with the tools and techniques that will assist you in being the best version of yourself- which is happy, joyous, and free. We can work together to modify thought processes which will improve feelings, behaviors and outcomes. My therapeutic orientation is cognitive and behavioral based, as well as solution focused. My approach is geared toward helping identify negative thoughts and belief patterns which cause emotional discomfort and unhealthy outcome results. I work with teens and adults who are struggling with substance abuse issues, depression, and anxiety. You are not alone.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, we will begin to establish a solid therapeutic rapport as well as get to know what led you to make the decision to come to therapy at this time. Seeking out therapy isn't always the easiest thing to do, and the fact that you are here needs to be recognized and validated. Have you tried therapy before? What worked? What didn't? What did you like about it? What did you dislike about it? What has been going on in your life that is hard for you? What are you struggling with? We will explore what brought you to counseling, and what goals you would like to achieve. We will work on developing a treatment plan that is designed to help you achieve those goals and outline strategies and techniques that will guide our path.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe that being an authentic and genuine person allows me to connect with clients on a deeper level. I feel that it is important for clients to feel heard and understood, and that is what I strive to provide at all times. I bring a very real and non-judgmental approach to therapy, and it has been my experience that this style allows for clients to feel safe and supported while working though some very challenging issues.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Negative thoughts keeping you down? I've used Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my practice for over four years to help clients identify negative thought patterns and beliefs that are causing them to maintain a negative outlook on life as well as preventing them from being the best version of themselves. We will use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. If you change your irrational and negative thought patterns, then you can change the way you feel overall. CBT has helped many clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety as well as feel more confident.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Lacking ability to stay in the present moment and put aside negative emotions? I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in my practice to help clients stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feeling without judgement. ACT helps clients to free their minds from obsessive thinking so that they can focus on the present and commit to a positive approach that will help them get past problems they are stuck on.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Lacking clarity and insight about solving problems? I use Solution Focused Brief Treatment (SFBT) in my practice to help clients gain clarity into their problems, as well as accomplish their own solutions to the problems that they are facing. It is also used to help clients focus on their strengths and resiliencies, rather than putting emphasis on their problems. This method improves confidence as well as helps clients to find solutions to their problems relatively quickly.
