As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I am a specialized healthcare professional with advanced training in assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals with mental health disorders. My role involves conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, prescribing medications, and providing therapy to support the mental well-being of my clients. I collaborate with other healthcare professionals to create holistic treatment plans tailored to address the unique needs of each individual, promoting recovery and enhancing overall mental health.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Here's what clients can generally expect during their first session with me; Intake and Assessment: Gather information about your medical history, psychiatric history, current symptoms, and any relevant family history. In addition to questions about your daily functioning, sleep patterns, appetite, and other aspects of your life. Establishing Rapport: Building a trusting and collaborative relationship is crucial. I will spend time getting to know you, understanding your concerns, and explaining how they can help. Setting Goals: Together, we will establish treatment goals. These goals may include symptom reduction, improving daily functioning, or achieving specific milestones in your mental health journey. Education: I will provide information about your diagnosis, treatment options, and potential side effects of medications if they are part of the treatment plan. Treatment Planning: Based on the assessment, we will develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs. This may include therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, or a combination of these. Answering Questions: Clients are encouraged to ask questions and clarify any concerns they may have about the proposed treatment plan, medications, or the therapeutic process. Follow-Up Plan: We will discuss the frequency of follow-up sessions and how progress will be monitored, as well as schedule a follow up.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I am trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy which is a widely practiced form of psychotherapy that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is based on the understanding that our thoughts influence our emotions and behaviors, and by identifying and changing negative thought patterns, clients can effectively manage and overcome various psychological issues. In a therapeutic setting, I work collaboratively with the client to identify and challenge negative thought patterns or cognitive distortions. This process involves exploring the client's beliefs and perceptions and evaluating their accuracy and helpfulness. I work together with clients to develop more balanced and constructive ways of thinking. CBT also involves the development of coping strategies and practical skills to address specific challenges. This can include problem-solving techniques, behavior modification, and exposure therapy, depending on the nature of the issues being addressed.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)

I am trained in CBT-I which is a structured program that aims to improve sleep by addressing the thoughts, behaviors, and emotions related to sleep difficulties. It's considered the gold standard for treating chronic insomnia and is often recommended as a first-line treatment.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I am trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) which is a therapeutic approach primarily used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) designed to help individuals challenge and modify unhelpful thoughts and beliefs related to traumatic experiences. CPT is typically a time-limited treatment, often spanning 12 sessions or more, depending on the individual's needs. It has been found to be effective in reducing symptoms of PTSD and improving overall functioning in individuals who have experienced various traumatic events.
