Shawna Sunday
I’m Shawna Sunday, and for over 15 years I’ve had the privilege of helping people navigate life’s challenges through mental health therapy, addiction counseling, and hypnotherapy. My work is guided by compassion, authenticity, and a genuine belief in every person’s ability to heal and grow. I see therapy as a collaborative journey—one where my role is to listen deeply, help uncover strengths, and support meaningful, lasting change.
First session
The first session is not about fixing everything at once—it’s about building understanding, trust, and a clear path forward. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, supported, and empowered with a sense of clarity about the next steps in your journey.
Strengths
My greatest strength is my ability to create a safe, empathetic, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel genuinely heard and understood. I am skilled at listening deeply and tuning into both what is said and what may be unspoken, which allows me to meet clients where they are and support them in accessing their own strengths. This strength enables me to build strong therapeutic alliances quickly, helping clients feel confident and empowered to explore challenges, set goals, and make meaningful changes in their lives. My presence, combined with my ability to blend compassion with evidence-based strategies, allows clients to feel supported while developing practical tools for growth and resilience.
Ideal clients
I am best positioned to serve adults and young adults who are ready to make meaningful changes in their lives but may feel uncertain about where to start. Many of my clients come to therapy seeking support for anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, life transitions, or recovery from addiction. Others are navigating stress, self-doubt, or patterns of overthinking that keep them feeling stuck. I especially enjoy working with individuals who are motivated for growth, even if they’re unsure what that looks like yet. Whether you’re rebuilding confidence, setting healthier boundaries, or redefining your sense of self, I offer guidance rooted in compassion and collaboration. My approach is a good fit for people who value personal insight and practical tools—those who want to understand themselves more deeply while learning concrete strategies to create lasting emotional balance. Together, we focus on developing clarity, resilience, and a stronger sense of self-trust so that you can move forward with confidence and intention.
Treatment methods
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use active listening and reflective communication to help clients explore their inner experiences and identify their own strengths and resources. My role is not to direct or impose solutions, but to accompany clients as they uncover their own insight and capacity for growth. Over time, I have found that this client-centered stance fosters self-trust, emotional healing, and sustainable progress.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I also integrate CBT principles with person-centered and solution-focused approaches to ensure the process remains collaborative and responsive to each client’s individual needs. This combination allows clients to feel empowered, gain insight, and build lasting skills to manage future challenges independently.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
Integrating solution-focused principles, I guide clients to focus on what is already working, set achievable goals, and envision practical steps toward desired outcomes. This forward-looking framework encourages empowerment and reinforces progress by emphasizing client strengths and self-efficacy.
